OT: The Patriots blocked two punts yesterday, right?

Because our inexperienced young QB made it as if one of them never happened.

It's not considered a block if the punt gets past the line of scrimmage

It’s one if the saddest parts of the game : two potentially game changing ST plays, several key sacks at needed times, and still... mistakes end up biting NE in the end.

You could - sadly again - make a 5min video clip of a whole bunch of amazing plays that would suggest the Patriots were in a laugher.

Doesn’t it also highlight how overrated special teams play is?
All the talk about the time and detail BB takes for ST and except for Gost, the ST played exceptionally yesterday. Still, no victory.

Not really...Gost makes those kicks and we're talking about not buying AFCE Champs shirts. ST was one of the deciding factors.

Those 4 points would have made a difference.
The PK is a part of special teams...but to me, if you block TWO punts inside the opponents 20yd line and still can’t score, that supersedes a missed FG and XP.

Either I forgot or did not know that McClellan was a member of this team.. weird.

Has anybody ever lost a game before blocking two punts?

Oh, it was a laugher alright.

There's TWO! I think Shea McClellan retired last year and now we have an Albert.

Seahawks rookie punter Michael ****son played for the Texas Longhorns. He was named MVP of the Texas Bowl against Missouri this past year for punting 11 times, booming 10 of them inside the 20 yard line and 8 of them at or inside the 10. He was fantastic. But I wouldn't consider his value overrated had Texas let Missouri score on deep bombs each and every time. It just means the defense sucked that day.

Blocking a punt and giving the ball to Brady at the 15 isn't overrated. It's on him for not getting points out of it.

It’s one of those weird stats that someone like Cris Collinsworth would spout off:

“Teams are 100-2-1 when blocking two punts while playing east of the Mississippi with temperatures above 73 degrees “
"And Al, speaking of big plays there are few bigger than the helmet catch!"

*insert helmet catch highlight*

Question, why does the official NFL game book only have us blocking 1 punt?

See here: https://static.clubs.nfl.com/image/upload/patriots/gr4mwupafdqzx0txjctl.pdf

Asking because it could give me a 2 point edge in a few FFL's, LOL.
shocking to me we blocked two punts and lost the freaking game. The final touchdown almost feels like a special teams f up. The guys did look "special" on that play though

That’s kind of my point.
What percent of NFL games does one team block 2 punts deep in the opponents territory?
Less than 1%?
Your special teams can’t play better than that.
And still we lost. Because our quarterback couldn’t get the job done when it counted most. Which is why I think special teams are a little overrated. Quarterback play is not overrated.

I'm still confused on how it's overrated. The odds of us scoring before halftime with the remaining time left went up immensely after that blocked punt. They did their job. Brady made a rare mental mistake and it cost us. That doesn't lower the value of special teams though. The overwhelming majority of the time, that's an automatic 3 points on the board, and a lot of times 7. Special teams gave them that opportunity. It's like saying having a great long snapper and a holder that always places the ball perfectly is overrated because sometimes the kicker misses it anyway. Well, he'd miss more often if those other guys were worse at their job.

Look at it this way: if we blocked 2 punts deep in our opponent's territory in 100 straight games, how often do we lose? You can't overrate their performance by looking at what is certainly a very rare outcome.
