I've actually been waiting (hoping) for something like this for my own knee. My orthopedic doctor passed away around the time I was supposed to get a new knee so I've put it off for a couple of years. With all of the horror stories I've heard about new knees I decided that mine isn't bad enough to take that risk.

I'm not an NYFL running back though. Here's hoping that Michel makes a full recovery no matter how that happens.

They literally just clean out the old cartilage completely and the disc pops in place. They don't even have to attach it with anything as it's a natural channel. I'm not sure how active one can be in terms of running but it should be more than adequate for cycling, walking and swimming.

My wife actually just had a total knee replacement about 4 weeks ago. She is 40 so the recovery is different then it would be for say someone older.

It’s supoosed to be about 18 month recovery until your full go, but still can’t do things like run, jump, kneel and no weight baring excercisng.

It hasn’t been that bad she has PT 3 times a week and is already walking without a cane or help.

She is having trouble sleeping and getting comfortable, but that’s just about it.

In 18 months she has to get the other one replaced as well.

My wife will be the bionic women by the time she’s 43.

I think that much of it is luck. I know one man in his 50's who insisted on having both knees done at the same time in December and he was walking the golf course by April and says that he feels fine.

On the flip side I know another man, also in his 50's, who had one of his knees done and has had nothing but trouble with it, so much so that one of his "options" was to have his leg amputated.

Don't tell the little woman about that one.

My wife had cartilage implant before the total knee replacement and it didn’t work.

In fact after the replacement surgery I asked the surgeon if they could see the implant he said NO there was no evidence of a implant at all. He also said the knee was absolutely destroyed like a bomb went off in it.

She also tried the gel and the cortisone shots for pain and nothing worked.

It's a full on meniscus implant. Just Google artificial meniscus and you'll see the pictures of it. I'm not at the stage of an impant but I did have stem cell injection using marrow cells a month ago. I'm only 29 so hoping that helps. Mine is just a cartilage defect on the back of patella but will cause cartilage erosion in femoral groove. A partial knee replacement would be my first option I believe.

Good luck getting that approved at your age. My wife has been fighting for this since she was in her early 30s and not one dr would do it because of her age. Luckily the dr she has now said let’s do it.

When the surgery was completed he actually told me he was concerned that the knee wasn’t as bad as they thought, but when he went in it was destroyed and made him relax a little. He also said the MRIs and X-rays showed not even half of the damage that was in that knee.
