So what can be done to fix this (1-2 start)?

The last few years if you come to the forums the day after a game and didn't know the team won, you would of thought they lost...

That's absolutely not true. There have been ugly wins where the focus was on the ugly more than the win, but that's to be expected. However, that's not the same as your claim.

I think it’s funny to say that a team that has been to 3 of the last 4 sbs and 7 straight afccgs has an approach problem because they lost 2 road games

Please give me a list of the teams that are signing top level free agents and having consistent success.

They have a lack of young talent problem. You know this to be true.

I expected snarky one line answers, anyone have anything insightful to say? That’s all I want to hear at this point
As knee JERK as I can be...

2001 0-2

2003 2-2

2014 2-2

I think 2012 we started 1-2

As bad as it looks it really simply is too early in the season for this team to give up them.

I do think we stink tho

I want some general dialogue here. What can be done offensively and defensively to fix our issues?

Offensively it seems pretty simple, that we need to hope Gordon and Edelman can help open up the offense, and figure out what we’re most comfortable with in terms of our playcalling. (Not the first time we’ve done this in September) The offense showed life week 1 against a talented Texans defense, so I’m confident we still have what we need on that side of the ball.

Defense unfortunately appears much less of a simple fix. Two main points I’m hearing from posters is that the talent is still lacking, and that the talent we once had (Hightower, D-mac, Chung) has declined in play.

So what all needs fixed defensively? First of all, how much will Flowers and Chung returning fix the issues we already have? I do think we’ve underrated their impact on the defense.

Second, are the players that we’ve said have declined actually declining, or are they just off to a slow start? I’m more optimistic that McCourty will rebound, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s struggled in his career. Plus 31 isn’t very old for a safety.

I’m much more concerned about Hightower. I’m in this sort of denial hoping he’s just rusty, but I’m fearing he’s not the same player he once was.

I still truly think we have more talent on defense this year than we did the end of last year. (Not that it’s saying much) I’m unsure of exactly how things can get fixed, but it feels like there’s things that can improve as the season moves forward.

Chung has always been solid since he returned to us from the Eagles, helped us win 2 SB and went to 3, Flowers was even more so, he is consistently ranked top 5 in terms of production in PFF ratings.

Missing those 2 meant a lot to us apperently.

I’m confident the offensive line will figure things out. Coach Scar is still here.

Most problems with the O line last night were coverage sacks, nothing much the Oline can do in those situations.

I threw away my lucky Pats t-shirt. It was the one I had on for the Malcolm Butler game, the 28-3 game and the Brady to Edelman to Amendola game. It got them through the Jesse James not surviving the ground game. Then I washed it. With fabric softener. That ended the dynasty right there. Sorry. My bad. Anybody know where I can get a new lucky Patriots t-shirt?
You prick!

in all seriousness, why is Dez not an option? looking at all-22, he would have been top option here last night...

Offense just have to wait until Edelman comes back and hope for the best.

Defense: Nothing. Talent isnt there. This year Kraft has to take away the GM duties away from BB and give them to someone else. BBs incompetence drafting players over the years has lead to this.

Hmmm..
2017 - Rivers and Wise (jury is still out on them)
2016 - Thuney, Brissett, Mitchell, Valentine, Hill, Roberts, Karras, C. Jones.
2015 - Malcolm Brown, Trey Flowers, Shaq Mason, G. Grissom, Joe Cardona, D. Roberts
2014 - Garoppolo, Stork, White, Fleming
2013 - Collins, Ryan, Harmon.

Just because Hill and D. Roberts are with other teams doesn't mean they were bad picks. The Pats wanted them on the PS and they couldn't sneak them there.

Brissett was traded for Dorsett. Dorsett looks like he'll be a competent #3/#4 WR.
Garoppolo was traded for a 2nd rounder that became Thuney and Mitchell. How was BB supposed to know that Mitchell's knees would let go after a season. Not to mention that without Mitchell, we don't beat Atlanta in the SB.

And how, pray tell, was BB supposed to know that Wynn, Berrios, Sam, Izzo, and Dawson would all get injured and have to be IRed..

2015 - You have 4 starters if you include Cardona since he's your Long Snapper.
2016 - Thuney is a starter. Roberts is a #4/#5lb. Karras is a damn good reserve and has shown he can spot start at Center.

It is idiocy to say that Kraft should take the GM duties away because BB doesn't do it by himself. He has Caserio and the entire scouting department.

5 SB rings. 8SB Appearances in 17 years. This idea that BB is somehow incompetent shows the kind of absolute arrogance that certain Pats fans have developed.. It's ridiculous and only shows badly on yourself.

Did anyone believe even 75% that we'd win?

As soon as the fact that Rowe was announced out, I was sold on a long, disappointing game. We are without our best rusher, no.2 corner and our WR1/2 are Hogan and Dorsett. Same would have happened with Dola and Lafell. They don't play those roles. That games was doomed from the start.

I think curing offensive woes will help so much. That fatass DLine will benefit from it not always being a 3 and out.aybe Hightower's age won't show so much.

There are worries, but with pieces coming back, I suspect marked improvement.

Don't know who you are. Don't Care. The fact that you believe Rowe being out wasn't a PLUS for this team tells me everything I need to know.

No. The game wasn't doomed from the start. It was doomed once the Pats stopped using their best RB on offense and insisted on getting Michel time instead. Not to mention the horrible play-calling by McDaniels.

In Hell.

Better coaching. Better line play. More give a damn. No secret ingredients.

We go as the offensive line goes, I have said this on this board for as long as I have been here.

We need Bill to get more involved in the defense. I like Flores a lot but having Bill there will help. Josh and Tom are full capable on the offensive side to allow Bill to spend more time on the defense.

Personnel. We need to be active and looking (like I am sure we always are). Once November comes it is a little to late. October is the month to do it. Whereas in the past we may not have made any moves, I would like to see some now.

A continuation from the point above..continue to be flexible and show that in action. BY and large BB is always open to new ideas and philosophies, unless they are tied and true to his foundational beliefs. Everything should be on the table...from value assigned to a position, to more flexibility for the players...while keeping control of the lock room.

Gang, we will be competitive as the calendar turns to October...we have personnel in key positions that are not at their first rodeo. Yesterday was ugly, no doubt, but I think it is safe to say we are #OnToMiami...:D

Start by signing Eric Reid and that corner from Washington if his foot is healed. That's about the best they can do at the moment.

1. Find the best players available to sign
2.SIGN THE BEAST!!!!
3. repeat steps 1 and 2 until there are no beasts left to be signed.
4.Supa bowl n' Duck Boats bro.

Swing a trade with either HOU, AZ, SEA or SF for a LB, DL or S.

Dez isn't an Option because he's not nearly as good as you make him out to be.
and he's not as bad as you're making him out to be? i posted to engage a dialogue. i said he would have been the best option amongst our receivers last night and i think the tape agrees
