Gronk nearly traded to DET in April

Brady has never taken a pay cut. Not a single one of his contract extensions or restructures has resulted in him pocketing less money. They money has been moved around, but he has insisted on and received more total guaranteed $. No cuts.
Don't muddy the waters around here with facts and the truth.

So Gronk directly confirmed tonight he threatened retirement to block a trade.
I actually think it was the other way around. BB, correctly threatened Gronk after his childishness(Vroom, vroom) with being traded and Gronk immediately stopped his idiotic nonsense.

Link: Tom Brady has sacrificed at least $60 million in his career with discount contracts to keep the Patriots competitive

Even though Gronk confirmed this himself people on this board will still claim this is just "B$PN Lies, fake news!" as they have for the last year of reports surrounding the Patriots which have all pretty much been correct

The fact he willingly did it is the whole damn point. Absolutely nobody is claiming he was "forced" to and you know it. Cut the dishonest BS.
Then why did he do it?

If you want to cut the dishonest BS, stop implying that they haven't been competitive.

He also would have traded Brady and kept JG.

Drafting Garoppolo was almost the best draft move the Patriots made since getting Brady.

At the time, in 2014, there were valid concerns that Brady wasn't going to make it past the end of his contract (which at that point was 2017, IIRC). I'm pretty sure the plan (after the 2014 preseason) was for Brady to finish out his contract (assuming his play didn't deteriorate), and then switch to Garoppolo.

Unfortunately, Garoppolo also proved to be Brady's personal fountain of youth. . . .

Then why did he do it?
I see you're moving the goal posts now.

Do I look like Tom Brady? I can only guess 'why', but surely not to see a CFL-tier defense for 2+ seasons of his twilight years. Surely not to see Gronk get shipped to Detroit. I assume he put faith in Belichick to spend that money wisely, which of course is a whole other conversation/thread.

I never came close to implying that. Go ahead and quote it.

Brady is the reason the Patriots are competitive, in spite of the roster whiffs.

Not only would that Super Bowl vs the Eagles be a blowout with any other QB, but they wouldn't even be there if it weren't for the 10 point 4th Q comeback against Jacksonville.

So they had the best D in the league in 16 and 5th best last year.

Brady?

If the metric you use says that the Patriots defense was 5th best last year, it likely contains several flaws. If you want to go with the claim that it was 5th best, then it should speak volumes to you that Bill Belichick, the "genius defensive mastermind" couldn't muster up a game plan using the 5th best defense to stop Nick Foles.

And in 2007 the greatest O couldnt do **** against a wildcard team. **** happens and teams beat teams on nights that they play well and dont make mistakes.

Deflections everywhere.

When it came down to it, Brady gave the team a lead with a few minutes left. Belichick's defense squandered it to Eli Manning.
