The Josh Gordon Thread: Pats Officially Acquire Gordon for Fifth-Round Pick

This podcast was worth the listen. Joe Banner was CLE's president the last time Gordon played something like a full season (it was 14 games). Basically he suggested that it took a lot of team resources to get him on the field for those games, and that was five seasons ago. This is a lot different than what I read on this mega-thread. People look at the numbers from that season and seem to feel that kind of performance can happen with a simple change of scenery. After listening to the podcast I think people will be more skeptical.

5 seasons ago Gordon wasn't checking himself into rehab because he felt like he was close to slipping. I think Gordon honestly wants to be better, and i hope being in an enviroment where the focus is on doing your job, and where the players are a lot less "ME first" will provide him with some good examples of how to handle himself.

Then again, maybe he's got CTE and we get another hernandez.

In either case, i'll wait to see how gordon handles it, over the complaining of a dude who hasn't dealt with him in 5 years

Oh damn.....I was joking. What kinda of desperate mofo are you? Pulling out the educational system card? I was just having a good at no one's cost. Come back at me and I will send you spinning.
No worries. I was joking too though it doesn't necessarily discount the whole desperate mofo thing.

Everyone can pretend they understand the full extent of the issues, but in reality they can’t.

It’s funny that the Patriots set list at today’s practice included Dr Dre’s “next Episode. As we all know how that song ends!!

“Smoke weed everyday”
Trollin Josh.

Lets hope he doesn't start hanging out with Harmon or KFaulk.

1.) @robertweathers , I disagree with your assertion that Gordon forced his way out of Cleveland during TC this summer. Gordon was a guy on his last chance and it wouldn't have been wise to 'rock the boat' with a team that was patient for 5 years. In addition, while Dorsey and Jackson might have wanted him gone, I don't think Haley wanted him gone. I base that on Haley letting Gordon start week 1 after Hue said they would ease him in.

2.) As for Gordon: So far, we know that he re-checked himself into rehab to avoid a paternity test last year. Then he re-checked into rehab during TC for some unknown reason. Now he is here under the bright lights of New England with a locker right next to Brady...and the Boston media. New England is a tough place to play and that coupled with the news that BB squeezed the Browns on making that 7th non-conditional by being willing to walk away from the trade. Let's just say that I am less optimistic than I was a few days ago.

3.) @Elijah , one of my favorite quotes is, "Even Babe Ruth struck out". Good luck!

Fair enough. I think you might be assuming Josh appreciated what CLE tried to do for him and was being logical and rational in his decision to shoot his way out of town.

Look how Dez Bryant steps up to help a new receiver, even if that guy may threaten his long-term presence with the team. Oh sorry, I mean Chris Hogan. I always get those two confused because they are so similar, especially in their unselfish team approach and overall "good for the sake of being good" outlook on life.

Hogan willing to help out Gordon if he needs it

"Guys have questions, I'm always available, always around. Always try to help guys when they have those questions. Whether it's big or small, it doesn't really matter. I've always been a guy . . . I was one of those guys that had a lot of questions so I try to help any way I can. Be a leader in the room."

On the other hand, Hogan is in a contract year. The addition of Gordon could negatively impact Hogan's statistical line this season, which could impact his bottom line.

Sometimes if you want to better yourself you just have to get away from everything and start over. I could see Cleveland viewing this as a new start for Gordon, it’s the least they could do after 5 years of support.

One of the things Hernandez regretted in that recent book was not listening to Brady when he told him to get away from the people he hung around with. Hopefully Brady can influence him somewhat since they are lockermates.

I agree with your take. Cleveland is a bleep hole. Loserville that breeds losers. Hard to compare to NE and what he will encounter here. Easier to have a brighter outlook and hope when you are around a professional, winning culture.
It's good and bad though. The good includes a winning environment, good coaches, focused teammates, and clear expectations.

The bad includes that there will be way more reporters in his face, hanging on every word. Way more cameras tracking his every move. It's more of a fishbowl and way more pressure overall. Some people thrive on the added pressure, some don't, and I'd think on average it might wear on a guy.

I really hope he straightens out.

We knew this yesterday at noon....
Cleveland's own 7th rounder went to Miami in the Jarvis Landry trade, so we get one of two others that the Browns have. IIRC they are from the Chiefs and maybe the Steelers. Hopefully we get the higher?
