I'm convinced Tom is "tired" of BB but in terms of having a functional, productive working relationship I think things are OK.

The bolded portion is a source of frustration for me. The week after the 2014 AFCCG, Brady and Belichick were going off of false information when they gave their press conferences. That's a huge qualifier to their state of mind and their responses.

Consider this scenario: A model employee is accused of a crime and the police report that the employee's finger prints were found at the scene. The employee and his manager speak to the press, but don't sound completely convincing because neither can explain the fingerprints. Later, it comes out that the fingerprints story was false. Knowing that, who in their right mind would ignore that false evidence was presented and still think the initial press conferences indicated some sort of guilt?

Regarding spygate, you're absolutely correct that Belichick admitted to it from day one. He also said at the time that he had been employing that practice since he became coach of the Patriots. This news was still treated as a bombshell during the Matt Walsh affair. Somehow, the "It was bigger than we thought" angle was added on to the story even though that aspect was revealed (and common sense would have told you it was the case) the same week the story broke.

The other aspect of spygate that gets played up is that is was "secret," which seems kind of silly. No team is going to announce what they're doing. If any team is trying to look for tendencies in their opponent to give them an edge, they're going to keep that to themselves. No one would expect a team to announce before a game that they have a trick play ready to use if they get into a 4th and short situation. With the Patriots, though, it's a sinister spying program that they developed in secret. Oooooh scary.

Well, if we can't trust a player's FATHER to give us an unbiased and reasonable account of what's going on, who CAN we trust?

Remember BB's initial "well, you'll have to ask Brady about the balls" response when it first broke. Didn't try to defend Brady at all. To this day I think that in the first couple of days BB didn't believe/trust Brady and wasn't willing to put himself on the line by saying anything like "Tom would never do anything like this", especially because if he did say something like that and it turned out Brady had done something, Goodell would use it to crucify him.

Then after the first day or two I'm sure Patricia (and maybe also Cam Fleming who was an aero/astro from Stanford) told him about the IGL and there was probably some big powwow leading to the Mona Lisa Vito press conference.

Now, the "Brady thought Spygate was 'likely true'" is dumb because BB never denied the filming so of course it was true (in the sense that the Pats had been filming teams). Or is O'Connor saying that Brady thinks Tomase's story was "likely true"?

How would BB know if TB knew anything about it.?

IF BB said "I know, for a fact, TB knew nothing about it", I would be sceptical.

Can’t say I disagree haha

I’m sure a lot of this is dramatized for a book, but so much of this echoes thoughts I’ve had.

But you’ll never get a real discussion of this here. Anything anti-patriot is dismissed as jealousy or hack journalism.

Yet another hack author who speaks for other people without actually talking to them personally.

When will people learn this stuff is always released around this time of year. It’s basic tabloid junk, with some facts to make it seem legitimate.

That was a basic thought from his Dad. BB usually gets rid of dudes a year early than late and if that’s the case, in Bradys case, that would be “badly”.

I can’t believe after all these years we are still talking about camera positions on the sideline and the ideal gas law/psi etc... Those narratives have stained this franchise forever. It’s gross.

Agree with you. There is no real discussion here, just a lot of fanboy nonsense. I just like to pop in here once in awhile and give a real world/adult point of view.

Agreed. Jimmy G was Belichick's next QB in waiting and was forced to trade him. Since we know what high regard BB held Garappolo (met weekly with his backup QB) and given how the trade to SF went down (looked like an angry GM calling up his boy in SF and trading a player he had been grooming as the heir ) I'm sure that's done a lot for the warm and loving relationship between Brady and Belichick especially if the often pouty and whiney Brady when running to the owner and forced BB's hand. IMO Brady either retires in 2019 or will play somewhere else because Belichick will outlast him here in New England.

I dont dismiss what the author says except its absolutely nothing new. The deflategate reaction of brady is from the phone texts which became public where someone texts brady "BB has put it in your lap". Its easy to write all these stories from that.
I dont get how the book's title is "the making of the greatest football coach of all time" and all the excerpts are bashing him.
