The Josh Gordon Thread: Pats Officially Acquire Gordon for Fifth-Round Pick

Back in November he told GQ that he's been drunk or high before/in every game he's played since college.

That's not "puffing weed as self-medication" or "enjoying a few coocktails".

Pregame self medication. So what.? Did he look impaired ? Obviously not. Having one drink or a couple hits is no big deal. Better double check GQ.. lol

I’m not liking this - why lie to the team that is helping you get back on track?

I mean did you seriously expect anything else from a player that has had a history of bad decisions since he entered the league ? There is a reason why someone like him is available for peanuts in a trade. And this kind of baggage is exactly what he brings in addition to all the potential that he has shown in 2013.

Not sure if this was already posted, but Gordon lying to the Browns is the reason he was traded. He told the Browns he was going to do a photo shoot at the team facility for his clothing line Flash on friday night but instead did a “hype video”’ where he ran a 40 yard dash and pulled his hamstring. He then shows up late for work the following day. I’m not liking this - why lie to the team that is helping you get back on track?

If true, its concerning.

From the dog pound to the kingdom grounds.... bring on the addict!

So he has a bad hammy. Don't assume he'll play Sunday ...... he might but we need an injury report.

Interesting thought. I wouldnt put this past him but I would find it incredibly brazen and even a little foolish to further antagonize Kraft. I also have a hard time envisioning the upside for Goodell.
Why? Kraft bends over every time goodell comes after him. There is absolutely no reason for goodell to hesitate attacking the patriots and every reason to believe he sees it as an easy way to get the publicity he wants to get with no fear of push back.
I mean he invented a violation and screwed over the franchise and got absolutely zero push back just a few years ago.
If kraft sent any message or was “thank you may I please have another”

This is Gordon's own words. He characterized himself as being drunk, etc. before/during games. He didn't say "I had a drink" or "I had a couple of tokes". He said he was drunk and/or high.

Sometimes it's easier to speak in other people's terms. When someone asks me if I'm high, what they really want to know is if I've recently smoked. I know that and answer accordingly, even though the psychoactive effects have long stopped being strong enough to be considered a "high".

Do you reserve a hotel room for your family under the name "Garagely" after you answered that question?

Right so haynesworth is your argument that it does send the right signal? You are disagreeing with someone saying this was a bad move by showing that another bad move for what you consider to be similar reasons didn’t work.

No, I asked why this move would send the wrong signal, when BB has made similar moves like this in the past. Now it's certainly possible that Rob opposed those moves, as well, but given that BB has made similar moves in the past, I'm not sure what the signal is exactly that is being sent. Beyond, of course, the obvious acknowledgment that this is not a championship-caliber receiving corps and that desperate measures were necessary and warranted.

You are the one introducing haynesworth into the discussion. Apparently you are saying haynesworth is proof that nink is wrong this sends a good message. Not sure what mental gymnastics got you there.

No, I am questioning what exactly the message is Ninkovich thinks this is sending.

I’m not sure where this became a character assessment. It’s about football and availability. If you seriously think haynesworth at the time he was brought in had a greater chance of losing eligibility or not showing up than Gordon then you are lying to yourself.

Why narrow it to losing eligibility or not showing up? Simply put, was the risk Haynesworth would flame out comparable to the risk Gordon will flame out?

Not disingenuous at all.
Of course you are being disingenuous. Your argument (fear) has been that Gordon will fail at the most inopportune moment. Adding a "what if" with Goodell is practice squad worthy.

Belichick basically refused to comment on Gordon today and it’s unclear if he’s even in town yet. It’s weird.

No sniff from the locals either way either. Who knows this is not the normal run of the mill trade really.

yeah..that's just being a dummy

The Patriots (specifically BB and the coaching staff) don't comment on players until all 'i's are dotted and 't's are crossed. So there will be nothing until the physical is passed and the transaction is made official.

Note: The transaction is not yet up at NFL.com

This makes absolutely no sense. You cite a failed move of a player you consider similar as proof it doesn’t send a bad message.
How about the message “we didn’t learn from haynesworth” and now are allowing a guy who doesn’t show up on a “do your job” , “no days off” team. I guess players shouldn’t wonder if skipping training camp because they had something going on in their life would affect them with Belichick huh?

No, I am questioning what exactly the message is Ninkovich thinks this is sending.
Seems pretty obvious. Belichick has said over and over he wants people who care about football. He just traded for one that appears to not care at all, or at least much, about football.

I think I’m hinsught they are pretty similar chances. Again if you think we just traded for a haynesworth clone you shouldn’t be supportive.

Pleeze srr, i begg to diffr.

By all means, not all potheads are the same, some are really motivated and focused but in general, potheads are the most apathetic group of people I've met or been part of :D. Explains why Josh's career has gone the way it has.
