The Josh Gordon Thread: Pats Officially Acquire Gordon for Fifth-Round Pick

I could not love this anymore. The only thing I like more than a **** show is the Pats winning. So this is really a no/lose for me.

But in realistic terms, what should we expect? Can Brady and Josh get on the same page by the end of the season? Can they play well enough for Josh to re-sign here and Randy has his great WR for the last season or two of his career? Or will it all be a middling affair.

It’s really so exciting, right! Thank god that BB doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him other than history.
If he and Tom connect on a bomb in DET this site will melt.

Hey guys, Good News! Josh Brown has played in a similar offense to New England. So he has the potential to pick up our offense fairly quickly due to some familiarity.

Excerpt from NESN article:

The Sports Hub host, Scott Zolak pointed out that Gordon played in a system similar to the Patriots’ this year with the Browns. Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley runs an Erhardt-Perkins offense, which has the same verbiage as the Patriots’. Haley came up under Ron Erhardt, for whom the offense is named, and former offensive coordinator Charlie Weis on the 1990s New York Jets. Current Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels also learned under Weis. That means Gordon could pick up the Patriots’ offense faster than other wide receivers.

Question for the vets: how long has “sign the beast” been a phrase around here? Who did it start with?

You seem to be complaining about the move.

We know the failure rate is above average.

My point is to go with it, support it, and let the chips fall where they may
Hey I hope it works out of course but I see major risk, perhaps the greatest risk of an acquisition, if it backfires.
My point is simply that this isn’t a case of if he doesn’t fly right we just cut him and move on. A ton of damage to our season could be done.
I can’t envision this guy making it through 5 months.

Care to explain this supposed disastrous risk? Part with a 5th rounder, low salary. This was a safe, risk free trade.

Gordon isn't a locker room cancer or known for having a bad personality. If he doesn't pan out, good bye. No harm done. But this team is not going to win a Super Bowl without a high powered offense. Gordon has the potential to elevate us.

Our offense and Haley’s May have a distant connection but they are very very different.
That said Gordon didn’t even show up to learn Haley’s system so we are back to square 1 either way.

Of course its a major risk. Josh is a weak moment away from a lifetime ban.

You and I have gone back and forth on this and I see no need revisiting it. I know your position.

Lets hope he flies right.

Or maybe it was me! Anyway I will take credit for it but I’m pretty sure someone else inspired it.
You and I have been on this board a long time. I don't recall another authoring the term

Then your point is misguided. If the second post did not clarify what I meant by overdose, let me be clear: I know that it is impossible to overdose on weed. In the sense that people generally think about when "overdose" is mentioned- which is the fatal variety. Cocaine, which he has used, and whatever other drugs he has or may use in the future, are another story altogether. Given what happened with Len Bias and (posibly) Reggie Lewis, most Pats fans should be aware of the dangers of coke use.

I'm not railing against weed. I could not care less about it. My post was meant to illustrate that Gordon is a junkie, an active junkie from the sounds of it. Odds of this working out, if that's the case, are close to zero.

Fair enough.

Does anyone know off hand if Gordon has failed a drug test for anything other than THC in the NFL? I honestly don't.

my gosh..if he can stay on the field think what this offense is capable of with Gordon, Jules, Gronk, Hogan...totally opens things up.. Stay sober Josh

Yes.
If Gordon shows his ability he will become a focal point of the offense. Every other wr not named Edelman will end up with a bit role and no rapport with Brady.
If Gordon suddenly freaks out because of the pressure of the playoffs and fails a drug test or bails in the team we are scrapping the passing game we developed over the course of a season and relying on guys who haven’t played.
Let’s not overlook this is a guy who chose not to show up for training camp because he is involved in a custody dispute.

Hogan, Edelman, Gronk all have good rapport with Brady and Dorsett has already been catching on.

Are we concerned about rapport being developed between Brady and Patterson here? Hogan and Dorsett are not #2 receivers, they simply aren't. This is a chance to have two studs at the #1 and #2 spots and good, reliable players in Hogan/Dorsett behind them.

If Gordon catches on and you have him, Gronk and Edelman on the field at the same time there is no better offensive arsenal in the NFL.

He had a DWI in North Carolina in 2014.

Hogan and Dorsett will be very limited.
You don’t have rapport in January because you had it in September. If 10+ targets a game are going to Gordon the offense will suffer a major setback if he flakes. If it’s going to happen I hope it happens early so we have time to prepare for the playoffs.
