Must be nice to be able to wash your hands of accountability because of a disease
As someone with extensive knowledge on this subject matter, I do think that it’s a disease, but I also get annoyed at those who try and play it up regarding lack of control with no accountability.

There is a lack of control, yes, but at some point you need to be a grown man, address your responsibilities and get your priorities straight. The demons need to be kept at bay in any way possible. Gordon has one last shot at seeing tens of millions of dollars, as well as all of the other perks that come with being a professional athlete.

Cripes, he didn't kill anyone or even hurt anyone (but himself). Half the people on this board yap about posting drunk after particularly stupid GDTs.

The guy has a problem, and it's one that could become life-threatening. it's also one that some people overcome, but critical to that is being put in the right places surrounded by the right people - and even that's not always enough.

Gordon has the talent to greatly help the Patriots. I care just as much that the Patriots might have the staff and locker room to help Gordon.

ps. Julian Edelman just got popped for banned substances, and wasn't drinking tea at the Kentucky Derbies he's attended. Oh, and one of Gordon's suspensions came because he had a couple of drinks on a flight to Vegas with some teammates AFTER the season ended.
Just cut the guy a break and hope for the best - for him and for the Patriots.

And also...he's playing in a league that makes millions on beer commercials. This holier-than-thou attitude is really dumb.

Drugs are more important to Gordon than football, or even making millions of dollars. He's a junkie. Maybe we get a few decent weeks out of him, but this is pointless. We will be lucky if he doesn't OD on us. I do not like this move. Since when did we start making moves out of desperation?

LeGarret Blount says hi.

Gonna OD on Mary Jane?

Are you 90 years old and still reading Nancy Reagan flyers on the dangers of marijuana?

To be clear, there's good reason to believe that Gordon's drug problems aren't limited to marijuana. Direct quote:

"I didn't plan on living to 18. Day to day life, what's gonna happen next? So you self-medicate with Xanax, with marijuana, codeine—to help numb those nerves so you can just function every day."

Josh Gordon on Addiction, His NFL Comeback, and Using Before Games

Needing xanax and codeine just to be able to get through an average day when you're 17 is a pretty big red flag. Codeine is an opiate, so what he's describing here is basically an early opiate addiction, the kind that frequently spirals into messier stuff like heroin. I hope that's not what happened with him, but I do have my suspicions. If it was just weed, I'm skeptical that the kinds of steps he's taken to get clean would even be necessary.

Hopefully he can stay clean, because that's some nasty ****.

Weed is often a gateway drug. I would be surprised if he hasn't graduated to harder stuff by now. 90% of the league smokes weed. They don't have the issues he does. Something is wrong.

I'll take "Baseless Accusations" for $600 Alex.

Holy 5h!t!!!. WOW. I can't believe. Awesome
What do we have to lose?

It's a stretch, but WTF

I don’t care about his recreational habits. I care that he is one recreational dalliance from a lifetime suspension and that his issues have caused him to be unreliable, and he has made football a low priority in his life.

Winning at the LOS is probably the most important thing a wide receiver can do. Winning at the catch point is the second. Gordon obviously does the second with an incredible catch, but what's underrated is him getting separation with this move at the line.

You see why he has to make the incredible catch - he turns around and has to slow down to an underthrown ball, allowing the corner to catch up to him (but never actually turn around; this is defensive pass interference as written). But he still gets up, displaying Moss-like body control to go up and pluck it out of the air with a defender in his face. This is all the wide receiver; Gordon makes the play easy and Taylor goes and makes it extremely hard on him. If this ball's thrown to the back of the end zone, it's an easy catch. And yet he still catches it... and gets his feet down inbounds for good measure.

Washed up my ass.

My fear is that we retool the offense with him as a major piece and then in the eve of a playoff game he gots off the reservation.
We would be worse off than never having him if that were the case.

Here's the thing about gambles: they're only risky if you wager a lot.

If you wager virtually nothing (late 5th value - early 7th value = practically nothing) and the upside is the guy who put up 1st Team All-Pro numbers with BRANDON WEEDEN throwing to him... it's not risky.

This uh isn't a real thing worth worrying about. You think they'll all forget the entire playbook the second Brady gets a new toy?
