Think of it this way: Julian Edelman is one of the top punt returners of all time, and Patterson is precisely the opposite type of WR.

PR is about field vision, quick cuts and evasiveness. For all his straight speed, Patterson has poor change-of-direction quickness.

That is NOT the way I saw him yesterday and in pre-season. He showed a lot of decisiveness in picking his spot and getting to the first-down marker. It reminded me of JE or a stronger Amendola.

Given the nature of our zero tolerance fandom and media, it should be noted that over his career with the Pats, Julian Edelman has fumbled 19 times including 3 time in `2016 and SIX times in 2013. I guess Julian should have been given the gate years ago.

Look for McCarron to be resigned to the PS after he passes through waivers.

BTW, I'd love to see CJones signed off the Ravens PS. He can return punts as well as provide CB depth. It's a no lose proposition,

B.B. know these players the best. He doesn’t let special players go unless there is a good reason. You could see the potential in Edelman. He was tenacious. The same with d Lewis even with fumbles B.B. lets him play. They don’t stay in the dog house long. McCarron really didn’t flash at all at anytime. These practice squad wrs we keep rotating in never end up lasting long here. I hope we find a real contributor. Maybe Mitchell gets back if he shows he is healthy.

Is there any evidence that Cyrus Jones can return punts in the NFL? He barely did it at college and was awful in real NFL game action. He looked more sure handed this summer but didn't really do much more than we saw from McCarron.

Jones was electric in college with the ball in his hands but isn't an experienced punt returner and the only reason to think he's more qualified than McCarron is that he had more reps in camp doing it.

I'd prefer a guy who has done it a lot in real games (either college or NFL regular season). People sometimes cite Edelman as a case where a guy who had no experience was given a chance, it should be noted that in his rookie year Edelman returned punts in only 3 games (6 total) and was the backup returner to Welker. That's different IMO than having your primary return guy be a limited experience option when the team is a contender. Special teams, and the return game especially, is huge in determining field position. The team would be best served with a guy who can reliably return punts. Let McCarron develop on the PS for a year if the team likes him so much (not sure why they would TBH).

Curious why you didn't think he had a lot of returns. He had 51 career returns at Alabama for nearly a 13 yard average and 4 touchdowns. He's not my favorite player in the world, but he appeared to get over the yips that plagued his rookie year.

I hear you, especially about the decisiveness, but unless Patterson woke up in a brand-new body this season quickness is definitely not his strong suit. There's a reason that he has returned 154 kickoffs and just one punt in his career.

Welker, Dillon, and Moss?

McCarron to the PS. Maybe Hansen as well.

McCarron is in the same dog previously resided by Chris Harper who muffed a punt and directly led to Gronk's injury, gave away the Home field advantage to Broncos and ultimately caused the playoff lose. Think about it. A FKING muff can have this kinda of chain reaction.

I really liked what I saw in Webb this preseason, maybe they give him a chance....Doubt we sign any big name players at this point.....

He is not the power back we need at this point. The lost of Hill will be felt later in the season.

If Michel isn't ready, then we'll activate Webb. Otherwise, he can stay inactive.

1. Dez Bryant
2. Jeremy maclin
3. Dewayne wade

One of them will play like they did on 2014

What is the deal with Maclin? Is he still hurt? I haven't heard anything about him doing tryouts/visits with teams
