@BrianCoz: Todd Bowles announces that Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback. #nyj

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This may mark a new era in Jets football.

From the film I've seen and I have read there are numerous hard to master skills that he seems to know(?), and makes me think this kid is legit.

I have hard time believing the Jets will have a winning record with all the trials rookie QB's go through.

Just wanted to put my name on it and say I think Darnold will be a top 10 QB in the next two/three years.

Some pretty good defensive fronts he’s going up against in the first 5 weeks of the season behind a suspect pass protecting OL. I’m hoping he goes the same route as David Carr.

USC and Jets QB, those two qualifications alone make him a long shot historically...

You mean behind that Invisible OL Kontra??:D

I did not expect many here to be familiar with Darnold or how he has impressed in camp.

Pros
Can read a defense and audible out at the line.
Excellent pocket presence.
Accurate while rolling out or evading the rush.
Calm and cool in the pocket.
Rarely makes the same mistake twice.

Cons
Lacks accuracy on the deep ball
Reluctant to go deep
Needs to get out of the huddle faster
He's a rookie

Sounds like the most poised guy the Jets have run out there in sometime. If I were the Jets, I would run the Patriots system that makes any ole scrub look like a superstar.

Darnold may be decent.

The Jests are still Tomato Cans :p

Well said.
The owner, GM, Coach, and the talent around him haven't got the job done.
Which means nothing is going to be given to him.

Is Bowles any good? Seems decent at least..?

I think Darnold has a lot of promise. The rest of the roster is the question....

Coach says,,,

Todd Bowles: Based on wins, 'I'm not a very good coach'

He is 20 and 28, He seems to be respected around the league, but I have my doubts.

I think he's going to be very good, possibly great... and that doesn't make me happy. That said, I don't think he's got a lineup around him that sets him up to succeed, and that might derail him. This isn't Mark Sanchez managing with a fairly good roster, it's going to be counting on Sam Darnold, as a rookie, to carry a bad one.

Wow! Upper level knowledge of the game here. Such abundant evidence that he can read a defense, hang in the pocket, throw accurately on the run, and learn from his mistakes at the NFL level despite never playing in a regulation NFL game. I’ve never seen a quarterback come into the league with similar projections and not be a Hall of Famer.

The best case scenario “new era” of the Jets looks a lot like the 2012-present Indianapolis Colts. You must be pumped.

Bowles is awful. I don't mind a team giving a guy a season or three to build something, but he's accomplished nothing.

He might be bad, but his QB choices have been pretty awful. Hackenberg and Petty aren’t NFL calibre QBs and Fitzpatrick is a backup.
