Feedback Question: Thread Prefix Categories

Seems like the popularity of non-Pats sports threads are an inconvenient truth to some.

Personally I don't mind one or two OT sports threads. They aren't hard to skip if you don't like them. I do like them, because we get to see what some of our patsfans.com members think about other sports. And yes there are too many "get off my lawn" comments.

The thing I don't personally enjoy is the pop culture / celebrity threads that pop up from time to time, usually when someone famous dies. That's because I come here for sports and I get my fill of pop culture elsewhere. However, as above, they aren't that hard to skip over and other people seem to want them.
I agree, especially for the off season.

I think this is a great idea

I think some that would help quickly identify threads would be:

Breaking News (For big huge stories. Think Spygate and Deflategate)
News (More run of the mill stuff. Think the Gurrero stuff from last year or Gronk talking about retirement)
Game Day
Post Game Day
(maybe add "Pregame" as well for when we have a thread dedicated to an upcoming opponent)
Analysis (for threads where people like to break down games and specific plays)
Training Camp (or something like "Team Camp" or "Practice" to allow it to be more broad for in season (and mini camp) as well)
Media (for threads giving notice when players will be in the media. Whether its an article about them or them being on TV or doing a radio show, etc)

Someone else also suggested a "Serious" tag and it may be needed as well. Some just turn every thread into a joke and it can get really annoying when you're trying to have a legitimate discussion about something (This does not include obvious troll threads. I think we all know what those look like).

I would agree with whoever said only staff should have the ability to add these or at least the ability to remove them if we are going to allow any thread starter to put them up. They quickly can be abused if not properly handled.

Right now I think these would really be all that is needed. Any OT stuff needs to be moved to other subforums (offseason is different and more lenient, which is fine, but in season it needs to be moved). Draft talk should be relegated to the draft sub (which it mostly is until draft time comes around which is fine as well). Adding too many tags will make the board look cluttered and possibly unreadable.

...But those're just off the top'f my head. :p

Serious answer? A question: Might this be in lieu of merging? If so, I think that it's a great idea, because while merging has repeatedly saved this board from disaster, I believe we sometimes get a little carried away...If we had several threads related to one central topic, of varying style and substance, it'd be very useful to be able to quickly surf the main board for'm ~ because of the prefix ~ and pick out the particular one we wanted. That's my take. Thank you, Ian, for relentlessly striving to improve this excellent Site!!

And yet our society continues to depend on it's elders while making excuses for and pampering the graceless children
I see the dementia is already settling in

It's kind of sad kids have so little grace and style themselves they don't even recognize it for what it is. That's okay though, just one more thing you can blame your parents for.

nothing says grace and style of out elders like complaining on the internet about young people

Can be label any angry rant about the team as "I Don't care, I can't stand it!"

I wonder if we really need more than Off Topic and Game Thread. Otherwise, too many labels might be misused intentionally or by mistake and tend to create clutter/false alarms.
Speaking of clutter, I'm really glad pot's legal now so I can clear my head

I just wish you would keep the non football stuff out of the Pats forum. I have no interest in LeBron James stuff, if I did I would presume I would look under Celtics.
After looking at the selection of 'Player X got arrested for Y' and 'Ex-Player Z just dropped dead' threads we're now featuring, I'd love some good ol' LeBron talk.

But now even the NBA has gone dry, unless you find the Marcus Smart contract situation to be juicy, but I don't.

All MLB has to offer is some 'David Price might not be as big an a-hole as we thought he was' content.

World Cup is France vs. Some Former Yugoslav Republic, not as sizzling as France vs England IMHO.

It's pretty depressing.

Maybe we need a 'Depressing Off-Season Content' tag?

Add to the list, 'Ex-Player X has lost his dog!".

Makes me long for some LeBron and CP3 talk.
