OT: Former Red Sox Hanley Ramirez??? Update: Recklessly Dragged Through Mud

The Sox didn't lie releasing Hanley eliminated the chance his 2019 contract would opt in. It was a baseball decision in part...the rest seems like BS. People are ODing on Fentanyl left and right, no sympathy for any creep guilty of dealing in that...But we need more proof than this report.
I'm distracted -- why did you choose Jets management for your avatar?

Conspiracy theory #1: the Red Sox knew this was coming.

This is ridiculous. A Massachusetts guy driving around with a pound of Fentanyl and a "large amount of cocaine" is stopped by the police and proceeds to Facetime Hanley Ramirez while the police are there?

That doesn't help us one bit. If he really cared about us, he would have Facetimed Roger Goodell.

My bad for setting off the pet peeve alert.

Yes, the love of money makes people do horrible things. Dealing in a substance with such a high tendency to kill one’s self and others is sad.

Edit: high potential/strong tendency

No worries. It's one of the most widely misquoted sayings out there. It's just one of those situations where the misquote really changes the meaning of the quote.

Conspiracy Theory #2. It might explain why other teams didn't pick him up..He did hit pretty well in April before slumping in May.....

Pet Peeve alert!

For the love of money is the root of all evils

Thank you all. Please continue.

I beg to differ: The O'Jays " For the Love of Money" is an r&b classic.

What's scary is any one believes this. There are several actual studies which show cats (and other animals) causing mental illness is what's crazy. But hey we have people all over who are suddenly allergic to gluten. You know gluten the perfectly natural protein in wheat which helps make bread. You know bread that "staff of life" stuff civilization was found on. Yup maybe 2% of the population has Celiac disorder and can't digest anything with wheat. And I supposed kitties can drive some people crazy. ;)

Two things: (1) did you read the article? And (2) the food-like product you buy in the supermarket labeled "bread" wouldn't qualify as "staff of life stuff" 100 years ago.

I don't read slide shows, but have seen articles from actual scientists. This is hogwash.

Agreed the supermarket bread is a distant cousin to traditional bread, go to a baker for that. The baker will tell exactly what they use. Many times what people think is gluten is some leavening agent or preservative...ironically gluten is what aids leavening.

While I think gluten intolerance and allergies are overblown to some extent, your argument for their non-existence makes literally no sense. Many, perhaps the majority, of human beings are allergic to some sort of pollen, i.e. they get an immune response merely from going outside. Or they're allergic to pet dander, and the domestication of those animals is older than the domestication of wheat. Celiac's is life threatening but many people get a relatively minor immune (allergy) or gastro-intestinal (intolerance) response when they eat gluten. That isn't an illusion.

Keep in mind vast parts of the world up until very recently included very little if any wheat in the diets of the non-wealthy. Even in the US, it's only been recently that wheat has begun to replace corn as the staple diet crop, newer strains of wheat have higher concentrations of gluten, and extra gluten is added to many bakery products to shorten leavening time. There's a number of reasons that prevalence of gluten-related disorders, including Celiac's, may be on the rise, even if the symptoms of non-celiacs sufferers are often wildly overblown (I have a wheat germ allergy, eating wheat gives me the sniffles, I eat wheat products anyways) and the gluten-free food industry helps push it.

Does pasta give you the sniffles? Just curious, I know people who claim to be gluten intolerant and eat other substances with wheat.

You are correct there is some evidence of suspected guten intolerance in people with out Celiac Disorder. However many times what is causing issues is some other substance in bread, and it's difficult to determine what the cause(s) is.

If you're a cat owner, this particular slide show has information you should know. Have your "articles from actual scientists" told you about Toxoplasma gondii (or T. gondii)? It's bacteria present in cat urine that cat owners come in contact with and a percentage of Americans have dormant Toxoplasma cysts in their brains as a result.

The rise in gluten sensitivity in Western countries is from our generally bad diet (processed foods).
