Edelman facing 4 game suspension

NDAs are generally signed to protect those poor, vulnerable corporations from one individual yapping about them. I imagine the NFL decides what gets leaked.

Actually they are fairly common and in most instances confidentiality/NDA's are there to protect information, process and or proprietary information. For instance many chemical processes and formulas are not patented because of the information that has to be given away to secure a patent. I don't know what industry you work in but your concept of how and why things are done by 'poor vulnerable corporations' is laughable. Of course given the NFL's track record it is reasonable to make the supposition things are leaked on purpose but that doesn't change the fact they have a contract with the union that is supposed to ensure confidentiality of the information and yet it is routinely violated without consequence.

Keep in mind that even though Breer had that little nugget that it was an "unknown" substance you can be sure that there is a lot more information available from the test than that. It could very well be a masking agent which is most probably why Edelman got suspended even though the substance can't be 100% identified yet. Or, of course, as @Palm Beach Pats Fan eloquently explained it could be a designer drug Edelman took.

From what I’ve read, if it positive for a PED and a masking agent, suspension would have been for 6 games not 4. Just a masking agent, no PED? 2 games.

I work in software, so I don't know if that might make my perspective different.

Interesting. Why would they make it 2 games for masking agent with no found PED and not keep it at 4. If the masking agent can be identified but no PED then there is a good chance that agent did its work.

A good portion of my career was spent in the chemical industry where there are a lot fewer patents than you might think, giving me a healthy respect for the value and utility of confidentiality agreements. They are very common, not just with employees but between companies and they are quite necessary. The compounds, processes and stochiometry involved in creating chemical reactions that happen at a molecular level make patenting most of them prohibitive.

unfortunately for jules. article 46 means goodell can suspend him for anything, including them finding an unknown substance in his blood.

They could have found nothing and suspended him because of his haircut.

I don't think article 46 applies to the PED policy. Those are covered under separate, clearly defined rules.

True, but in the league's defense, some of Jules' Brady inspired haircuts were worthy of a suspension.

Article 46 covers anything the commissioner decides is bad for the league, aka anything he chooses.

For instance If you get a new cell phone, and cant show roger your old cell phone, you can lose 4 games.

I think there is genuine concern that Edelman tested positive for something worse than just something one uses while injured to come back faster.

It is possible that he will be exonerated. Don't hold your breath, but it is a possibility.

Your post contained a lot of other helpful information, but I just wanted to comment on this last paragraph. If you want to see the people who hate the Patriots (fans of other teams, media people, league office employees, other NFL owners, etc) lose their minds, watch what happens if Edelman wins his appeal.

No, that's not true.

Article 46 doesn't cover/override things that have been explicitly written into the CBA. Like PED and substance abuse discipline.

Equipment violations were explicitly written in the CBA....Brady should have only been fined at worst..... The Kangaroo court is a real thing...

Dollars to donuts suspension stands because, well just because. :)

If they punish for an unknown substance in blood, they might as well punish for Cancer.

They can't be that low or stupid, can they?

The last time they tried to screw the Pats "deflategate" the Pats kicked their ***es from here to Kingdom come.
