Celebrity chef and host Anthony Bourdain dead at 61

Shocking. I watched his show regularly and always learned interesting things from it.
Suicide is becoming epidemic in this country.
Hard to believe that we’ve built a society where people killing children, people killing themselves, child molestation and exploitation/sexual harassment of women are pretty much the daily news.
If you know someone named Noah and you see him at the lumber store stick close to him.

You left out mass shootings. So much is going sideways these days. It's hard not to think we're amidst a major societal paradigm shift.

Sad news :(

If you look at the ideals that our culture instills in the population, it's hardly surprising. Even though most American adults now have very low empathy, are hooked on instant gratification and are almost completely closed minded, we are voracious consumers, work tons of hours and are so divided we'll never work together. Sure it results in more mass violence, failed families and suicides, but from corporate America's perspective, it's all going according to plan.

I was referring to mass shootings when I said people killing children as most are happening in schools.

Who knows what goes on in the minds of famous
people....Robin Williams' death shocked me as well...I look at myself as lucky...... I'm happy in my family life.......let's hope it doesn't change :)

He was a drug addict in recovery, a bit of a prima donna and a keen social observer.

This was unnecessary.

Ok, she seemed a little bit on the "impulsive" side. A bad marriage really doesn't do wonders for a guy's mental health.

Wow, and from the outside it looked like he had the "dream job" too.

Never was a regular viewer of his show but the guy always struck me as kind of miserable looking. His ex-wife sounds like a whore.

He looked like he hadn’t slept for days. Enjoyed his show and seeing what all those different countries had to offer. RIP

Great writer - loved his No Reservations and Cook's Tour - came off as arrogant douche at times but he was must see TV for me. - he hated all things vegan vegetarian which always bothered me
RIP Tony

I mean it Fits.

When i heard the news when i woke up my first three thoughts were that 1.) he OD'd 2.) he had a heart attack, or 3.) he killed himself.

He lived his live right on the edge, because that's what he loved to do.

The statistics regarding suicide in this country are frightening:

“Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a survey Thursday showing suicide rates increased by 25% across the United States over nearly two decades ending in 2016. Twenty-five states experienced a rise in suicides by more than 30%, the government report finds.”

Closer to home for me: "A study reported earlier this month at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association revealed that among U.S. professionals, physicians have the highest suicide rate. According to the researchers, the suicide rate in medicine is more than twice that of the general population, resulting in at least one physician suicide per day in the U.S. In fact, the actual number is probably higher, as the stigma of suicide results in underreporting."

Whenever things like this happen to people I like or care about, I feel like I've been cheated or something has been stolen from me. And it's occurred a lot lately. I also believe suicide is an impulsive act and the victims often are isolated.

Suicides are up 25% since 1999.

That is completely unacceptable.
