Superbowl 52 Loss

The two Giants losses sting way more. The 18-1 loss for reasons so obvious they don’t even need to be mentioned, although I give the ‘07 Giants credit for being a very good football club overall. The second Giants loss because the Giants were not even a worthy SB team who underachieved all year and got so many breaks and lucky bounces throughout the playoffs including that game..

I hear you, but those losses occurred on the field by the Giants making (albeit lucky) plays. What makes this sting more is the Patriots (more specifically Belichick) torpedoed themselves for still not completely known reasons. The Patriots almost surely win if Butler plays - that's the overwhelming belief by most. Maybe those who believe this to be true are whiny *****es, but they share that trait with Brady and other actual Patriot players who were also stung by the benching which led to a dent in their collective and individual legacies.

Guess I missed the part where Brady laid the loss at the feet of not playing Butler.

Please, his actions since the Super Bowl have seemed somewhat unBradyesque. Winning is everything to him and that victory was stolen from him:

Brady quote, "“I wish he would have played, but the coach decided not to play him..."

More from Brady, "I didn’t know. Malcolm kept coming over to me during the game and was like ‘Come on, TB, let’s go!’ And I kept going, ‘What defense are we in where Malcolm’s not on the field?’ Is it short-yardage, goal line?"

Even more from Brady to interviewer Jim Gray, "“I haven’t gone and discussed those things,” Brady told Gray. “Do you know why he didn’t play? Would you like to tell me?”

And let's not forget his tweet in support of Butler after the game, "He's an incredible player and teammate and friend.”

Danny Amendola was also blunt about his feelings on Butler in an interview with Mike Reiss, "I have my thoughts about it because I was out there putting my blood, sweat and tears out on the field that night, and one of our best players wasn't on the field," Amendola said. "To tell you the truth, I don't know why. I did ask, but I didn't get any answers."

There is ZERO doubt this sentiment is at least privately held by many Patriot players and (in addition to the talent/schematic cost) almost undoubtedly was a distraction in a very close Super Bowl.

So please, stop with the technicalities. Your right Brady didn't publically, vocally, definitively lay the defeat at the feet of not playing Butler, but most of us can read between the lines and have come to the conclusion that many players were bent by the benching of one of the Patriots better players in the most important game of the year (and for many in their lifetime).

Super Bowl 52 is the easiest Boston sports team championship loss I'll ever witness. I got over SB 52 quicker than I got over the 2010 Jets game.

I'll add, it's maybe 30% due to our success over the last 18 years and winning 2 recent SBs. But I'd say most of the reason is simply because the Eagles were just the better team. In 07 and 2011 I felt like the better team lost and I was bitter about it. The Eagles were outstanding on offense and we were putrid on defense. It's actually a testament to their greatness that it was even close and a strip sack away from a win. I was pissed for a day or two, then got over it. The Eagles don't bother me one bit.

I bet I'd feel much more differently had we lost to Carolina or GB. What a gagfest that would've been

I don't have any trouble believing players are pissed about it but I do have a problem with selectively feeding the beast. It's worth noting someone that wants another poster to 'stop with the technicalities' lifted selected quotes from an interview that also included these statements from Brady:

"It's unfortunate we lost, but give the Eagles a great deal of credit. They deserved it, and we'll be back next year trying to kick their butt."

"I can do my job and I'm going to do it the best way I can. I've got to trust everyone else to do the same thing. Sometimes it works out, and for our team it's worked out better than every other team for a long time, so how do you nitpick one or two things? Everyone is trying, in my belief, to do the best thing."

Hello All,

After Superbowl 52, I had a hard time coming to terms with this loss. I know the Pats had lost before in the Superbowl but why did this one bother me so much? After taking some time to reflect, I realized that the problem is due to all the Eagles fans throwing the loss in my face. I live about 45 minutes away from Philadelphia, so you can just imagine all the news and hype. I am so sick and tired of hearing about the Eagles but I cannot seem to tune it out. Can anyone give me advice on how to get over this? It will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.
Nikki
It's because Brady had the best SB game of his career at his age. And it was remarkable, yet no one gives a **** about that. They all go jerk off to that scrub Nick Foles who ANY QB would have succeeded with that Eagles team. My grandmother could have thrown for 300+ yards with that Eagles offense.

Also the Patriots were robbed 100% of SB52. NFL is a disgrace.

Thanks for bringing all that together into one place...pretty devastating!
