Why not a 1 year deal with Dez Bryant?

I could see him doing something similar to what Michael Crabtree did with the Raiders when everyone thought he was done. With that being said, I don't think Bryant will want to be in an offense that New England runs that isn't simplified for him. I think Matthews could be a sleeper to compete with Mitchell and they will get creative with Patterson. If Mitchell has injury issues this year, I like Matthews as the #3 WR.

watch All or Nothing: A Season with the Dallas Cowboys. you won't want him after that.
.
I haven't watched it but I had a friend tell me about it and said Jason Garrett is one of coaches like Mike Tomlin that doesn't do anything. Also, the Cowboys are extremely delusional on good they think they are.

He appears dumb as a box of hammers and Dallas has asked very little in terms of route running. The Pats need players that can grasp a difficult playbook with complex route trees. I have serious doubts Dez could actually find the playbook, let alone read and understand it.

He is more likely to be Ochocinco or Joey Galloway than Randy Moss. A wasted roster spot. No thanks.

yup, i completely agree. i think garrett has probably read every book on leadership and tries to apply all of the principles he's learned, but in terms of actual coaching and teaching there doesn't seem to be much there.

If Mitchell is healthy his ceiling is a lot higher than that especially since he is on a 1 year proove it deal . Remember:

800 receiving yards, 65 catches in each of first 3 NFL seasons

Jordan Matthews
Odell Beckham
Mike Evans
AJ Green
Randy Moss

I hear you. Let's say he's currently still on the market, made a mistake to turn down the Ravens, and could be snagged for near league minimum now. Would you do it?

He's been putting up ~800 yards/6 TD's in his down years recently. Similar as Moss who people said was broken down before the Pats got him. With high motivation you think he could play a little Michael Irvin on the outside ?
just from listening to moss as a television analyst, especially when he's talking about technique, defeating certain coverages, etc., you can tell he has a lot of football intelligence. this is what belichick said about him:

Bill Belichick: Randy Moss is NFL's best deep receiver

"I think Randy looks like Randy," Belichick said, via Comcast SportsNet BayArea. "He's the greatest deep-ball receiver that's ever played. Nobody runs better patterns or has a better feel for the deep part of the field like Randy Moss does. ...

"He's an explosive, dynamic player, and probably the smartest receiver I've ever coached. I know he absolutely knows what he's doing and knows what the defense is doing."

nothing i've ever heard from bryant leads me to believe that he has that kind of football intelligence.
.

Bryant is a nutcase. For real. He's got anger management issues. Probably dyslexic. He's been getting nuttier by the season. Nah...I'll wait and catch the post career lowlights on NESN Sports tonight

Dez Bryant's catch percentage the last 3 years:
43.1%
52.1%
52.3%

Watch Dez Bryant be in the wrong place 2 plays in a row or watch him drop 2 sure catches in a row, and then watch Tom Brady NEVER look his way again for the rest of the season. Does that sound like a good expenditure of cap space?
His lack of production no longer justifies overlooking the drama that comes with him, his “me first” attitude, open whining on the sideline, and total opposite of what we need in the locker room.

When you wear out your welcome with the Cowboys, it’s probably not the best of signs for your career.

^Very true, I totally agree with this after watching "All or Nothing". Not to mention, as someone else pointed out, after watching that show they definitely don't want Dez.

There is nothing left in that tank but a vacuum. For vet min, maybe. This is the second coming of Ocho: An overpaid washed up prima donna who's game has deteriorated to the point where his contribution to the success of any team is not likely to be worth dealing with his disruptive 'look at me' persona..

Ok I'm convinced !!! :-D

The Cowboys had many problems last year I wouldn't mind Dez as a RZ Target.

Dallas needed to put a special team of chaperones in place to keep Dez going down the right road and away from the perilous path. That doesn't quite jive with the philosophy here. Add to that a declining skill set to where he now has difficulty winning one on one and that he will start stirring the pot if he's not targeted as much as he thinks he deserves and I'd say there is zero chance of him suiting up as a Patriot.

The biggest problem with Dez Bryant is that he forgot how to catch the last 3 seasons. He used to have reliable hands, but flaked out at some point.

He's lost his explosiveness and he never ran the full route tree, but if he was still able to muscle guys and catch in traffic he'd at least have a role. But he's completely lost that. Some people want to blame Dak, but the truth is that balls are hitting his hands and he's dropping them.

He single-handedly lost their game against the Seahawks by fumbling away the ball on one play and tipping up another one for a pick. There was also a pick-6 where he wasn't the target, but you can see him immediately quit on his route and just dog it. Stinking the joint up didn't stop him from throwing sideline tantrums, either.

I'm not one to rag on every wide receiver with a personality as a "cancer" or whatever, but Dez is a pain in the ass and he alligator arms everything now.

Yeah, Joey Galloway, Chad Johnson...Dez Bryant. Tom's not overly tolerant of aging divas so IMO it would be a recipe for disaster. Randy too could be a bit of a flake at times except unlike those others he's a HOF guy who is in the discussion for GOAT (even if JR was greater still) - so somebody who could walk the talk.
