I'd like to see him make the team if he shows promise as a WR and punt returner, although I like a lot of WRs on this roster: Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, Matthews, Dorsett, Patterson, Slater* and Berrios. Britt, Hollister and McCarron can get the axe; barring a major showing in training camp & pre-season.

I listed 8 WRs though, which I doubt they carry. I think Dorsett has a lot of upside and looked great in limited opportunities last year. Way more shifty than Cooks. And while not a proven deep threat like Cooks, his presence & speed on the outside can still keep defenses honest, similar to what Cooks provided.

The only way Phillip Dorsett makes it is if he looks Hogan or Cooks like in TC and Preseason 2018. Anything less we are moving on.

Limited opportunities?? that's a stretch Chris Hogan was out for quite a bit and he did next to nothing in that time. I will give him the benefit of the doubt of a TC this time around But if he's just average we can call him a Bust. The Colts didn't miss him last year.

Yes, limited opportunities. He was targeted just 18 times. 12 receptions averaging 16.2 yards.

Gronk, Cooks and Amendola were ahead of him all year long anyway (plus Hogan for 9 games). Also, not sure if you remember, but that heated argument between Brady/McDaniels in Buffalo was because Brady missed Dorsett wide open.

Back on Berrios... I predict he doesn’t cut it, but then the Pats pick up Austin Proehl after Buffalo passes on him and he’s our next big time slot WR. Whether that’s a year or two, I don’t know, but it just seems right.

He still has potential. Those numbers are not sad. I think Mitchell is the weak link along with Britt, not talent wise but because of reliability. He had knee issues in college and they have cropped up once more. Too bad.

Britt is a safety valve Vet in case of camp injuries.

Have no idea why the Drafted Berrios. Trey Quinn had much better number, was bigger and could also return punts.Quinn has 10 1/8 inch hands which are mitts for any WR. Same speed as Berrios.
Here is the deal . He averaged 8.8 catches per game when his other WR was Sutherland......Oh well.....spelt milk.

If Dorsett played slot he would be safer. He's not a slot here. He's a weapon but Josh needs to know how to use him. He had a 67% catch ratio. What happens to Dorsett in 2018 rides on Brady and McDaniels. He has talent. He arrived here days before the start of the 2017 season.

I think Matthews will have more than 60 receptions and I think Patterson will have more than 40. Those are my predictions. Those two will temper losing Cooks and Dola when you add in JE.

Wild card?.....Dez. The beat down on Dez is almost verbatim to Randy Moss before we got him. Every ball thrown his way will be fought for with gusto. Guaranteed 10 TD's + this season patrolling the Red Zone.

I was at that game. He actually got open a lot more than he was thrown to.

Thanks for providing a numbers based perspective. Certain posters I do not rely upon for scouting reports. And certain posters actually dig into tangible things like facts, film, and stats.

You were right in that Quinn is indeed bigger. Everything else was wrong, though.

One year wonder Trey Quinn could return punts, very badly. 6 career punt returns in three years, for 20 yards total.

Berrios averaged 15.9 yards per punt return this past season, vs. better competition.

As ctpatsfan77 showed, Berrios is also MORE, not less, athletic than Quinn.

To be fair, I think he meant receptions and yards, not measurables.

That said, you could make an argument that the Pats would have been better off with Dylan Cantrell, who they could have had in the fifth round, but he doesn't return punts. [As I said before, 6.56 3-cone/4.03 SS isn't supposed to come in 6'3"/225.]

40 time:
Quinn 4.55
Berrios 4.44
Carr 4.62
McCarron 4.41
Edelman 4.52

Vertical:
Quinn 33½"
Berrios 36"
Carr 33 1/2”

McCarron 40 1/2”
Edelman 36 1/2”

Broad jump:
Quinn 9'8"
Berrios 9'2"
Carr 9’8”
McCarron 10’ 4”

Edelman 10’3”

3-cone:
Quinn 6.91
Berrios 6.72
Carr 6.70
McCarron 6.59
Edelman 6.62

Short shuttle:
Quinn 4.19
Berrios 4.18
Carr 4.07
McCarron 4.16

Edelman 3.92

Just to check:-
When people say athletic, is it in relation to the forty time?
Explosive is the vertical and broad jumps?
3 cone and shuttle the agility/change direction drills?

Given most people think Austin Carr didn’t make the roster due to inability to create separation, why would Berrios based on those numbers? Or is it more in the route running skills? Also put in McCarron’s numbers for interest, as they seem all over the place - yet people were saying similar things about him as they are about Berrios when he was signed to the practice squad last season. Could he shine this off season as well?

Just wondering, as the one thing I’ve read about Edelman was his ability to create separation from the get go and the numbers that separate him are the 3 cone and shuttle.

He was measured at 5'8 and a half but he posted a 36 inch vertical leap. That's impressive It's a numbers game when it comes to the wrs here

Edelman
Hogan
Matthews

I don't know how many wrs we will select but i am hoping 6 at least.
