Out with Aldon Smith, in with Arden Key?

I sincerely hope it works out for everyone involved, but I'm surprised that they were willing to make this move, all things considered.
yea hes a mess. hope its behind him but w/ all the pill popping going on in the NFL id be terrified. Who knows, def wish him luck.

The Patriots stole one of the best pass rushers in last year's draft with their 3rd round pick last year, just a complete terror off the edge with an insane athletic profile, and people seem to have completely forgotten about him because he got hurt.

He was a terror off the edge at Youngstown State but in the NFL only got some snaps in preseason before tearing his ACL. Most elite athletes I've seen aren't quite the same until year two after an ACL tear. In terms of Pats history that happened most recently with Dion Lewis. Plus he didn't get a whole lot of NFL experience and still has to adjust making the leap from I-AA.

I hope he can be great but I'm not that optimistic in a post ACL year and still not having had much experience in the NFL.

Isn't either Aldon or Arden the name of the South African bad guy in one of the Lethal Weapon movies?

& lest we forget... whether in the draft or in free agency for the undrafteds, David Wells, TE from San Diego State, will be a New England Patriot.

Rivers is nothing until he is something. Hightower is a high injury risk. Shelton's here because he's been a disappointment. If people want to worry about the defense as it's currently constituted, they've got fair reasons to do so.

It's amazing to me that people keep mentioning shelton. The guy has been nothing short of a disappointment. It seems like BB's trying to make him like the college player he was.

Relax everyone, we’re doing fine.

In round 1, we started with 1-23 & 1-31, picked at those spots, got good value and filled needs with OT Wynn and RB Michel. Also remember we got pick 1-23 for Cooks, which itself was a good trade.

In round 2, we started with 2-43 and 2-63. We kicked 2-43 (the JG pick) into next year’s draft, and it will be a better pick in the mid to high 30’s (a Bears pick). We also got a high 4th rounder for tomorrow from that trade. We used the 2-63 to get DB Dawson, who sounds like a solid value pick.

In round 3, we started with 3-95 and traded it for OT Trent Brown, in which we also received pick 5-143. This was a good value trade, he’ll see substantial playing time and be a big plus for our OL.

In rounds 4 & 5, we started with no picks and ended up with 4-105 and 5-143.

Rounds 6 & 7 are unchanged: 6-198, 6-210, and 7-219.

For next year’s draft, we still have the JG high 2nd rounder, giving us more flexibility in that draft.

And as others have noted, before the draft we used 2018 choices to land other players such as Rowe.

Can they cover and rush the passer? The fact we couldn't get another pass rusher or LB's very dissapointing. Anyway i hope the offense's great again so we can outscore opponents.

That is because he had a revolving door of coordinators that did not use him in the optimal way all of the time. In NE he will be used substantially more to his strengths and is going to upgrade our front 7 immensely by doing what Branch could not do anymore last year which was pretty much the main reason we lost the SB. But people keep pointing to shiny objects instead.

Disappointed we didn’t get Reid or Harrison to replace inept Richards but other than that I’m ok with Dawson.

I get bill wasn’t exactly thrilled with this prospect group, I know I wasn’t.

In the first round they preferred the guys they picked, and also chose not to move up for anyone in the 15-22 range. I think it's possible they were set to take Landry at 43 but the Titans jumped us to take him.

You mentioned Jordan Richards? Jordan Richards is bulletproof so long as Bill Belichick is the head coach of the New England Patriots. You know, the vaunted teacher's pet.

Maybe he just got his hands on those photos that Jake Bequette used to have?

Aside from the Michel pick (which I think is brilliant), the rest of the draft is a waste. Wynn is not good, I'm telling you I've watched his entire career, I have no idea what he did at the Senior Bowl to make people think that this 6' 2" (3/4) 330 guy can play tackle in the NFL. HE might be a decent guard, at best he could be as good as Thuney I doubt he gets to mason levels.

The Pats should have tossed up a 6th to move up a spot or two and grabbed Evans. I don't know if any of you realize this or not, but the defense that got shredded in the Superbowl, is actually a better defense than the Pats have today.

I love Hightower, but he has never played a full season, and aside from him Van Noy is serviceable and the rest are awful. The front seven contains no pass rushers. If I had told you at 8pm on Thursday that they come Saturday morning, the Pats would have drafted a guard, RB, and the usual overreach for a CB in the second round, your heads would have exploded.

I had no problem with the first trade down in the second, as the cupboard was already bare, and even trading into next year wasn't awful. But then wasting the capital you made in one of those trade downs to trade back up for Dawson (who you all know you said "who" when they drafted him) was ridiculous. So is Dawson going to start? Of course not, he is going to go into the second round dumpster with Ras IR, Wheatley, Jones, Jesus I can't even remember all of them.....

Then Apparently SF right tackle showed up overweight , so the Pats ship SF a third round pick for him. So what's the plan? If you assume that Thuney, Andrews, Mason, and Cannon (is he healthy??) remain the starters, the left tackle (the guy who is protecting the blindside of your HOF QB) will either be Waddle, the fat guy from SF, or 6'2" rookie Wynn. And you wonder why Brady isn't thrilled about the upcoming season.

Now we come to day three, the day where we groom draft picks, so after we cut them, they can get scooped up by other teams. There is no one left that will help the dumpster fire defense, Brady will have to score in the 50s every game for them to win.

So be prepared for another season, of a defense that doesn't rush the passer, and doesn't get turnovers. Philly showed that the way to beat the Pats is to not play conservative, now every team will be doing that, and this defense will not hold up, as it only contains tow real playmakers (Hightower & Gillmore) and the rest are either JAGS or worse (just ask Nick Foles if you doubt my assessment).

Shelton, Danny - trade with Cleveland Browns

Yet another failed first round pick, like Mingo, Cooper, boy they worked out great didn't they. He is coming from a 0-16 team, 1-31 over the last two years.

Valentine, Vincent - return from IR
JAG

Clayborn, Adrian - acquired in unrestricted free agency

OK, he is better than anything they have

Rivers, Derek - return from IR
who knows

Hightower, Dont'a - return from IR
great player, has never played a full season

McCourty, Jason - trade with Cleveland Browns
worse than his brother (if that is even possible) again was going to be cut (with a very reasonable salary) by a 0-16 team, and somehow you guys think he is going to be a savior???

Jones, Jonathan - return from IR

JAG

Still no pass rush, still no impact players!
