We are VERY THIN at WR !

VERY true...it is the one strong receiver that the team lacks beside Branch...1A-2.....the 3-6 slots are full of candidates or possibilities which is great for competition..but that other threat is needed!! So all in all..I agree also it is NOT that bad....but if the team doesn't focus on that big time WR...it will NOT be very good at all...and to think any others that I mentioned will step up??? Not likely this year.
So who do they go after???
A Bruce..Moulds?? A Josh Reed??? I think that will be interesting...one will fall the Pats way I am sure!! Why?? One of those big name receivers will think about a ring more than money and will sign...will express interest in coming to a winning team..who it is?? A mystery now..but in a month we will know.

Why not pick up Santonio Holmes or Chad Jackson at WR in the first round and give Brady some bigger game breaking threats? Both are solid route guys with speed and great hands.

That is possible as well..but I think BB and company will have a few solutions not one..and a vet is needed. To put all that pressure on a rook is not the way it's usually done. Bring in a rook even a high draft pick..but also a vet that can do it in case the rook is slower learning..and that way, next year there will be 3 solid players...(If Branch is extended..which I hope he will be.).
From what Kiper and others have said, it's not a great class of WRs this year.

What ever happened to that Jason Anderson kid? Or was it Alexander? The kid that was giving Bam Childress a run for his money in TC? (Yeah, I know he's no Number 2, just curious).

Unfortunately for Jason Alexander, George Costanza has been officially retired by a certain Mr. Jerry Seinfeld.

We have two TE's that were #1 drft picks. Ben Watson looks like he could be a #2 WR. We can draft another TE in the mid rounds as this is a goo class.

Watson's speed and athletic ability is better served at TE where he can get huge mismatches against a LB or S, IMO. If he was up against cornerbacks all day I doubt he'd be as good a player. I'd love to see him on jump balls vs a corner though.

I wouldn't mind Stovall in the late second or early third. I think if anyone takes him in the 1st they are nuts.

You are right about first round. But we do have extra picks to use to get him in the 2nd ( top 10- mid ). He won't last beyond the early third or even late second.

He was cut...signed by Tenn..was allocated to the Rhein in NFLR but didn't make the team.....so I assume he'll be in Tenn's TC in July. I think he caught a TD pass in preseason. Really liked him...pretty smooth...saw him in TC as well.
but that is where he is.

Willie Ponder - Great return man for the Giants last season.
Reche Caldwell - Has had injury issues. But is very good when healthy.
Eddie Drummond - Good return man for the Lions
Antonio Bryant
Antonio Chatman - They list him as an RFA, but I thought I read that he was cut. He'd make a good replacement for Troy.
Nate Burleson - RFA
Jabar Gaffney - it would be interesting to see how he performed when his QB has time to throw the ball.
Joe Jurevicius
Randy Hymes - Heard a lot of Baltimore fans raving about this kid last year.
Shaun McDonald - Was stuck behind Bruce, Holt, and Kevin Curtis. Played well when Holt and Bruce were out.
Peerless Price - The Pats looked at him last year, but he chose Dallas.
Kelley Washington - Stuck behind Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzedah in Cincy.

While his sensitivity has been questioned by some, there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that he is related to Bag O Hammers.

(That's about as senistral a compliment as you can get.)

The TO factor could be pretty interesting. He is by far the most talented WR in the NFL and can be available for far far under typical market value. Its a shame that no one would touch him. Imagine him in a Pats uniform putting up 120/1TD per game for the first 6 weeks and then ... BOOM ! The TO blow up, magnified 100x by the Boston Media .. its a beat writers dream!

Ok, from what I read and hear, this situation is not going to resolve itself this year.

1) There are no really good #2 wr's in the free agent market to replace DG, and the only outstanding #1 is absolute poison. Hence bidding is going to be high for the stock available.
2)Because of this, DG would have to come with a big price tag. And do to internal issues (Branch), that probably isn't going to happen.
3)WR's are not the strength of this draft. It is safe to assume that there is real talent there, but not one in our reach able to step in and start next to Branch, and be a real double threat. At least not on opening day.
So what to do?

Go after a capable wr through f/a. One with the potential to establish himself here. Some were mentioned by DaBruinz, such as McDonald or Washington. Not necessarily them per se, but of that mold.
Then use a mid round pick for a real diamond in the rough. All the tools kinda kid who needs that something to step it up. But make sure the head is one of the tools he brings. He could then be expected to start to contribute by mid season.

The new f/a would have to draw at least some attention and perhaps more if he works out. The kid has some time to get the pro game down. All works out well and we end up with 3 solid WR's. But even if one busts, by season's end we should have that #2
