Adam Schefter: Brady not yet committed to playing in 2018

You can’t spend literally years bragging about how you want to play until your 45, then directly or indirectly convince the owner that Jimmy needs to be traded because you won’t be giving up the job any time soon, and then immediately retire. You just can’t do it. It’s not fair to the organization and it’s not fair to us fans.
Could want to get back at Bill. Who honestly knows at this point

Or maybe Brady intended to play for until he was 45 but now is tired of playing at age 40. He'll be 41 during the preseason. He has played longer seasons than most players in recent because he's been to the playoffs every year and the SB five of the last eleven years. He's been in the NFL for 18 years. Maybe he's feeling a dropoff and doesn't want to endanger his health. That's what I mean when I say its no one's fault.
Yep.

What you say is very plausible.

Its possible after the Tom v Time taping (or even before) he did some major soul searching and course-corrected his life.

It happens. Look at Josh. One minute hes gone the next hes back.

The words "fickle" and "disingenuous" come to mind...

I will be the first to admit, our key leaders aren't the happiest this off season

Though I'd like to remind everyone: this is sports journalism. It's the off season. These journalists resort to the most extreme speculation. Every day they need a new headline.

Nobody knows what's going on, period. Everything is attributed to "close sources" and that's it. Keep your head level, and just wait.
The problem is this came from Schefty. Hes not 100% right all the time but the man does not make **** up.

Except that through his actions he’s basically put the entire organization into a hostage situation. They are now dependent on him because they banked everything on him keeping his word, his word that he’s been assuring them for literally years, that he would be sticking around. If he’s now changed his mind it’s an unconscionable bait and switch.

I’m not trying to go down this rabbit hole, but you can’t trade the GOAT while he still plays like the GOAT.
Yes you absolutely can if you think the GOAT is only going to give you 1 or 2 more seasons.

I hear you. I see the situation as you do however just like the BB/Malcolm thing I'm not going to bash Tom for changing his mind and leaving the org in the lurch just like I'm not going to bash BB for benching Malcolm because I don't know all of the facts.

Unfortunately, if TB does retire, it'll put a black mark on his legacy in New England. Our last memories will be of him screwing the Patriots on his way out the door. Not a good way to end it.
Unfortunately that’s how it often is when legends leave a team. It definitely isn’t always a clean break.

It has become a little clearer lately that Gronk is more interested in a restructured contract than retirement. With Brady, my best guess is that he’s looking for stability. I don’t know if that means a no trade clause or a bunch of new guarantees or just verbal assurances that they’re willing to sit next week’s draft pick for multiple seasons, but I can see how Brady wouldn’t be completely comfortable taking it one year at a time right now if he doesn’t have to.

“When you’re thinking about retiring, you already have.”

Blame Belichick/the crooked NFL for ****ing him in the super bowl. I’m sure he’s still royally pissed about it, hence the indecision on his part right now

I'm not much aware of any conspiracy....but one thing I recall hearing on the day of the Superbowl was that there were 6-7 million dollar plus bets placed in Vegas and that thety were all on Philly. But then again Philly didn't exactly have to win to cover these bets (I assume)

I would agree with you but Bob's comments to the effect of both sides think the current contract is fine confuses me.

Tom Sr said this would not end well and with the proverbial compass pointing in that direction he might be right.

I would not be surprised at all if the Pats cut Brady after next season. Belichick is not tied to anyone emotionally.

Brady is going to play this year. No doubt in my mind. I can't see him retiring - he might do it to screw Bill but he wouldn't do it to Robert. Seems like him and Gronk are working fro the same playbook.

All this means the end is near though and we need to do whatever we can in this draft to get the QB we want. If that means a big trade up then we should do it. Finding your future franchise QB trumps all else.

If he is Shefty's source he is screwing Bob as well. The NEP have sponsors, advertisers, partners and other financial streams that are impacted by Tom's status on the club.

Wish we had Grap rare miss by the front office and if Brady or Kraft forced BBs hand then thats f'd of them and cery short sighted.

I think this news underscores the reason for all these "inside" rumors floating about cyberspace that the Pats may very well break with precedent and move Way Up in the draft--some even have it, to the top. How many times have you seen "Darnold to the Pats?" I was responding to this by saying "what stupidity," but maybe now I kind of sense the source.
