Adam Schefter: Brady not yet committed to playing in 2018

OR, at least tell BB and Kraft that he had thought of or contemplated retiring, that would have been a factor in whether or not to keep Jimmy G. Now the pats may have only a year to aquire his replacement.

I am guessing the Brady-Belichik tension has more to do with Belichik being forced to trade Garapolo. Now Bill is probably pissed off with the Schefter report.

It's very interesting that this report came from Schefter. Makes me wonder whether this is a Patriots / BB source trying to apply a little heat to Brady to get him into camp and start tamping down all of the persistent rumors floating around about Brady/Gronk/Guerrero/Belichick all having hurt feelings and not liking this or not liking that.

I had the same thought that this is a BB -driven mind game on Tom to ferret out his intentions/get his commitment to the team before the draft.

Having followed the BB era Patriots over the years, I'd guess that BB seriously wants to turn the page on the drama from last season and move forward with the 2018/19 team, so it would probably make sense for him to try and get the locker room in order.

I bet this crap is pissing him off big time. Thats why I put Gronk 50/50 on the roster in 2018.

Dealing with Tom is a much more complex issue.

I do have to say... this whole thing has gotten pretty frustrating.. as much as I love TB, you can't going around telling everyone and their mother that you want to play until 45, allow your team to trade your replacement, and then come back saying "ehh nevermind"...

If Brady retires the offseason after they traded the heir apparent it’s one of the all time largest screw jobs in sports. Brady won, he beat “time” and was all set to play the next few years as the starting QB like he’s been claiming he’s wanted to for years. And now he’s pulling all this? Good god this is beyond ugly.

Blame Belichick/the crooked NFL for ****ing him in the super bowl. I’m sure he’s still royally pissed about it, hence the indecision on his part right now

Unfortunately, if TB does retire, it'll put a black mark on his legacy in New England. Our last memories will be of him screwing the Patriots on his way out the door. Not a good way to end it.

If the team sucks next year and kraft told bill to trade jimmy and keep tom then bob.

If bill traded jimmy on his own and missed all the signs tom was going to hang it up then bill.

In tom told bill and bob he was coming back this year and gave assurances which justified trading jimmy then i blame tom for going back on his word (which is his right but leaves the team in a less than optimal spot.)

Or maybe Brady intended to play for until he was 45 but now is tired of playing at age 40. He'll be 41 during the preseason. He has played longer seasons than most players in recent because he's been to the playoffs every year and the SB five of the last eleven years. He's been in the NFL for 18 years. Maybe he's feeling a dropoff and doesn't want to endanger his health. That's what I mean when I say its no one's fault.

Exactly, which is why Bill is probably pissed right now.

The region could turn on Brady
The Patriots had Garopollo and Brissett
Traded both away
At the same time Brady is probably pissed about Butler benching, Amendola/Solder leaving

I'm not sure its coming from him.

With the two sources talking, try putting Bob and Jonathan's names next to them.

Real??? Brady is no more walking away this year than I am walking on to take his place.

Ok, let me clarify then. No, I don't *really* believe that Brady isn't going to play this year. And I'm sure Schefter doesn't either. But what *is* real is that Brady hasn't "committed" to playing - presumably meaning saying for 100% sure to his family and to his team. Which in combination with Curran's stuff and others, means 1) Brady is still peeved at Belichick for whatever reason (mostly Yoko Guerrero related) and it's starting to get old to him and wear him down, and 2) the "football as his #1 and only passion" may have shifted. It happens as people age; it's hard to be singularly focused over a long period. He may have realized he misses being around his family and kids as they grow up; his TB12 business might have really taken off as a passion; etc.

I used to think Brady would play until he realized he sucked, as per his old quote. But given this, I'm thinking he'll be quitting sooner because it isn't his passion anymore with the BB/Yoko Guerrero thing not helping. And it could end as soon as the end of 2018.

I will be the first to admit, our key leaders aren't the happiest this off season

Though I'd like to remind everyone: this is sports journalism. It's the off season. These journalists resort to the most extreme speculation. Every day they need a new headline.

Nobody knows what's going on, period. Everything is attributed to "close sources" and that's it. Keep your head level, and just wait.

You can’t spend literally years bragging about how you want to play until your 45, then directly or indirectly convince the owner that Jimmy needs to be traded because you won’t be giving up the job any time soon, and then immediately retire. You just can’t do it. It’s not fair to the organization and it’s not fair to us fans.
