Patriots won't Mortgage picks to move up for a QB

I wouldn't want the Pats to draft a QB in with any of the first 4 picks. that being said, I would not give much credence to anything written or said by anyone about any NFL teams draft strategy with only two weeks to go before the draft!

We are fully into the 'disinformation" (as Big ****y called it) part of the NFL season.

I would be okay with adding a 2nd to move up if there's a targeted player dropping at any position. My instinct tells me Belichick will use one of our top 3 picks and trade 1 to gain picks this year or next.

After i heard about the Garcia news and now this,i feel comfortable that we take 4 defenders with our first 4 picks and rebuild our defense for the next years.

Garcia is still 2 years removed from playing any meaningful football. Hopefully he’s ready to go.

Just a fan POV, but a team like the Jets or Browns or Bills almost HAVE to take a huge risk/investment in trying to get a QB at all cost. The Fan base, the FO, the coaches, they players are probably f'n exhausted of not having an answer for so long.

It would just look like pointless desperation for the Pats to do something like that, and desperate is the last thing they are.

I don't want a 1st round QB due to the contractual obligations that come with the option year and that crap......I would take Lamar Jackson in a heartbeat with the 2/11 pick

Jackson won’t drop that far

Everything is based on assumptions and hopes. But i really see the Patriots in a good position to infuse a lot of young talent to the defense as they did in 2012 and 2013 but in one draft.

2018 NFL Draft: Patriots reportedly 'won't mortgage' picks to move up for a quarterback

Thank God. We can draft a QB like Mason Rudolph in the 2nd Round or Mike White in the 4th Round.

If you take any article about who a team is going to draft seriously, and the team involved is not the Browns at #1, you're crazy. Based upon the combination of written/spoken reports/speculations, we already know that the Patriots are going to:

Trade to the top of the draft to grab one of the top 4 QBs
Trade up a little to grab a 2nd tier QB
Stay pat and draft a QB either at the bottom of round one or in a later round
Not draft a QB at all

The underlying "source" for this is Peter King's opinion. Personally I don't think they'll move up a lot, if at all, for a QB but this source/article doesn't move the bar on what's going to happen.

"Contractual obligations" is a strange concern in my opinion. The option year is entirely team-friendly. The team has a choice to exercise the 5th option on him right around draft time following his 3rd season. That 5th year option is only guaranteed for injury until right before free agency starts before his 5th season. In other words, the player can crap the bed during/after year 4, and as long as he isn't hurt the team can rescind the option and allow him to be a free agent after that 4th year.

Basically - a team would/should only exercise the 5th year option on a player who would command a higher cost in free agency than the 5th year option provides. If you're taking a QB in Round 1, if he's showing any sort of potential to be a starting QB, then it's in your favor to exercise the option. If he doesn't, then just don't exercise it, and he'll be a free agent after year 4 like everyone else.

I want Jackson. Kid can fly and he can be groomed with no rush to play. I wouldn't use 23 on him but if he's still there at 31 things get interesting. My ideal would be to get an LB and DE in the first then get Jackson at 43 or trade up slightly to get him. And a TE at 63.

You must not want him too bad. I think Az or Balt will take him before 23.
I think after losing out on Mahommes last draft, I think the Saints trade up for him. According to reports, they love him.
