Cooks traded to Rams for 23 overall pick

I don’t think this is the only shoe to drop. I doubt it’ll be for Beckham, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did this for another move in mind. 23 should put them in position to get someone they really like and will put them ahead of the Steelers for LVE if they like him enough.

Gronk and Brady extension?

Or maybe moving Cooks has been in play for a little while and that's why restructures haven't been done yet.

Dorsett can do what Cooks does for substantially less money, guys like Riley McCarron can make the team now.

Our GM is wicked smart...

Dorsett has never been close to as good as Cooks. But the Patriots two of the last four Super Bowls with Mitchell, Hogan, Amendola, Edelman, and LaFell at WR. So Cooks isn't needed.

This team needs defense, we need pass rush, something we lacked big time! We couldn’t get a sack to save our lives in the Sb. This year picks should be to fix our defense.

People like you need to get your head out of the sand and deal with reality.

The Pats were without Hightower, McClellin, Jonathan Jones, Rivers, and Vincent Valentine. Not to mention the let downs of Branch and Butler. When you have that many pieces missing from a defensive unit, you are going to have issues. I don't care what team it is. Acting like picks will automatically fix the defense when having those players back will do significantly more to fix the defense than anything rookies brings shows a severe lack of understanding of the game on your part..

Your statements also give ZERO acknowledgement to the fact that the Eagles O-line was EXCELLENT and had been all season.. When people can't be bothered to give credit where credit is due, then they are worth listening to..

We’ve made a lot of risky moves this off season. Lost lots of big players. Can’t afford to lose Gronk too. BB always has a way of making things work though. In Bill we trust.

I said 60/40 he's be traded. Now it's 100/0.

I felt this trade coming the moment they brought Dorsett if all things went well. For most people things didn't go that well w Dorsett . for re-watch afficionados good enough to be considered and in postseason we could all see glimpses. Im not saying its strictly about Dorsett, far from it . just felt that they they'll probably move on and despite solid season nothing told me Cooks would be that rarest of species: WR that gets paid top $ by BB.

We were talking last week about positive buzz on some PS WRs . McCarron, C.Hollister..

Most of all - this is simply too good of a trade to pass considering picks and cap space. Lots of flexibility for futher trading and draft. The smell of LT trade getting stronger.. Take away from a position of plenty to a position of need.

I really liked Cooks, his bizarre Super Bowl notwithstanding, and I argued against trading him (when some suggested getting a 2nd), but this trade is a no brainer. WR contracts are out of control. 23rd overall is amazing value for a WR with only a year left under contract. The cap relief is no small thing, either. With some restructures, we could really be in a good spot.

Tentatively very happy with this move.

He's not wrong. Anyway, the injuries definitely sucked and hindered the defense, but Philly had their fair share of guys on IR too.

Wow....they must be confident in the WR's we have or really like someone in the draft or will trade for someone else. This takes care of one UFA for 2019.

Probably both, IMO. The Pats probably feel good about where Edelman and Mitchell are with their rehab, and I'd bet they'll also bring in a FA and/or rookie WR.

I liked Cooks more than most, but the first and the 8.5 mil makes this one easy to swallow.

I was okay with Cooks I just never believed Belichick would pay the $14-$16m it would cost to keep him past next year which made the 1 the Pats gave up to rent him seem like a high price to pay. Now coughing up #32 last year suddenly looks like a pretty damn good trade.

The Rams are obviously going after it hard to get those PSL's sold.

I’d like to see the Matthews signing, now.

I can’t say that Im thrilled about the Cooks trade because I liked how he seemed to pick up the offense. That said, Im glad they received a 1st for him.

So, the Pats get #23, a 6th round pick and $8.459M in cap space for this trade.

That leaves them with Edelman, Mitchell, Britt, Hogan, Patterson, McCarron, Hollister, and Dorsett.

Many felt the addition of Patterson and having Dorsett was the writing on the wall for Cooks anyways.. Not to mention the Pats exercising the option on Britt.

I think this trade actually will allow them to pick up a LT early while also picking up a defensive player, be it a DE or a LB.. I see LB as the bigger of the 2 needs, but DE would be next..

I both like and hate this trade. I like it because yeah, we got a good return for a potentially expensive WR. I hate it because why did we trade for Cooks in the first place? Seems like a waste of a move and draft picks really. 1st and 3rd for a slightly higher 1st and 6th essentially...
