************.

You have been on his **** since the day he was drafted.

Brown has been fine.

Dig deeper into why Shelton was acquired. Look at their contract situations

I have never typed a disparaging word about Brown before this. But go ahead and make crap up as though it is fact.

So in 2015 it wasn't you after his 6th game saying he was a wasted pick?

I'm 99.9% sure it was you but if you say it wasn't then I will take you at your word and apologize.

With that said, he is nowhere close to being a bust.

"In the win against the Jets, Branch did get some snaps after being a healthy scratch, but it was Malcom Brown who really impressed at defensive tackle. Brown was able to total 44 snaps, two runs stops, two quarterback pressures, and one sack in the win against the Jets."

New England Patriots: Malcom Brown shines against Jets

"But now, three seasons in, people know what to expect from Brown. While he may not be Wilfork in his prime, he's an excellent run defender who has the ability to occasionally flash as a pass-rusher. In 15 games this season, including playoffs, he has 30 run-stuffs to go along with three sacks, a quarterback hit and 14 hurries, per Pro Football Focus. Despite dealing with an ankle injury mid-season, this was likely Brown's best and most consistent year as a pro"

Why Malcom Brown is crucial piece for Patriots against Eagles

"Brown is more Ty Warren than Vince Wilfork or Richard Seymour and there’s plenty of value in that skill set for the Patriots. Brown will continue to develop as a pass rusher to complement his already-elite run defense and that should open up plenty of opportunities."

Patriots DT Malcom Brown is really emerging in his 3rd NFL season

"He is not quite Vince Wilfork, but third-year defensive lineman Malcom Brown has developed into a steady player for the New England Patriots and is displaying the type of leadership on and off the field that made him the team’s No. 1 pick back in 2015."

Patriots gridiron news: Malcom Brown anchors the defense with leadership

"Including the playoffs, Patriots defensive tackle Malcom Brown has tallied a run-stop percentage of 10.8 percent this year, which ranks sixth among defensive tackles with at least 85 run-defense snaps."

52 observations ahead of Super Bowl LII | NFL Analysis | Pro Football Focus

"Brown isn’t always a guy who does a great job getting to the quarterback, but he’s certainly gotten better in that regard this year with his game against Buffalo seeing him logged five combined sacks, hits and hurries to set a new personal best. Always disruptive against the run, he’s not a player who gets a ton of credit, but is integral to what the Patriots do on defense."

"The Patriots have PFF’s 17th ranked defense, which is perfectly mediocre and good enough to make New England a contender if they can fix their mental errors in communication and alignment. PFF notes that DT Malcom Brown is the Patriots best defensive starter."

PFF: Patriots defense "hasn’t been that bad" in 2017

"Brown was single-handedly ruining the Jets run game all day long. He only collected two run stops, but blew up a handful of other runs that he didn’t get the finish on."

"Malcolm Brown dominated against the run as the Patriots locked up home field advantage throughout the playoffs"

IMO, the bottom line is fine at DT with Brown, Shelton, Valentine, Guy and Butler.

Frankly, I don't care much who among the 3 biggies is the starter, and who is the backup.

Brown is part of the rotation, and a key part of the DL.

Its fake news.

Brown is JAG. That's obvious by now.

Getting Shelton is about adding depth, creating competition, and taking advantage of a high value trade opportunity. It doesn't reflect on Brown. It simply brings talent.

The Pats were worst in the NFL defensively running up the middle. Shelton is here to play a lot because Brown is a disappointment.

31st 2017 run defense and dead last defending the run where Brown plays.

Not sure how you can blame Brown for the entire defense's rank against the run (there are 10 other guys on the field). Also, pretty sure I've provided actual evidence to confirm that Brown is excellent against the run. Where is your evidence to suggest the opposite? BTW, there are multiple players that play the middle of the defense where Brown plays including DLs and LBs.

2011 Pats were just as bad against the run as 2017....therefore Wilfork is a bust

the 2002 Pats were just as bad against the as 2017.....therefore Seymour is a bust

he's not a pro-bowler right now, but as a late 1st rounder, he'a been OK

in fact, you can say that he's the best DT drafted in 2015 with Grady Jarrett being a potential exception:

1 1 12 12 Danny Shelton Browns Washington

2 1 17 17 Arik Armstead 49ers Oregon

3 1 32 32 Malcom Brown Patriots Texas

4 2 3 35 Mario Edwards Raiders Florida State

5 2 7 39 Eddie Goldman Bears Florida State

6 2 20 52 Jordan Phillips Dolphins Oklahoma

7 3 26 90 Carl Davis Ravens Iowa

8 3 32 96 Xavier Cooper Browns Washington State

9 4 1 100 Angelo Blackson Titans Auburn

10 4 14 113 Gabe Wright Lions Auburn

11 4 17 116 Rodney Gunter Cardinals Delaware State

12 5 1 137 Grady Jarrett Falcons Clemson

13 5 15 151 David Parry Colts Stanford

14 5 18 154 Tyeler Davison Saints Fresno State

15 6 4 180 Michael Bennett Jaguars Ohio State

16 6 16 192 Darius Philon Chargers Arkansas

17 6 23 199 Leterrius Walton Steelers Central Michigan

18 6 27 203 Darius Kilgo Broncos Maryland

19 6 38 214 Kristjan Sokoli Seahawks Buffalo

20 6 40 216 Christian Covington Texans Rice

21 6 41 217 Rakeem Nunez-Roches Chiefs Southern Mississippi

22 7 6 223 Deon Simon Jets Northwestern State (LA)

Comments:

- Brown isn't a "bust". I think we had HIGH expectations when he told reporters that he was the best decision the Pats ever made.

- Remember Seymour? He never showed up on the stat sheet, but when he got hurt in 2005 and returned late in the year...our D all of sudden became A LOT better up front.

- The Pats defense is a bend-but-don't-break type...so we will always give up yards. So, defensive rankings don't mean anything. We only care about points given up..which we consistently rank in the top 10 for...except for the Superbowl...d%#*!@t (a lot of that was big plays given up and not doing RZ work as usual).

- Brown isn't asked to rush the passer. He is two gapping...and I like what Bruschi says, "If you don't see a lineman's jersey number...he is doing a good job. If you see a jersey number, the lineman is getting turned or being pushed off the ball".

An adequate DT can be found on the FA scrap heap or even in late draft rounds. NE has a club option on Browns contract in 2019. At this point I would bid him adieu.

Without vast improvement he will be clearing out his locker if he is expecting a big payday after this season.

Not to argue with you about the option one way or the other, because we all know that BB loves to go dumpster diving, but I will note that the FA market will likely make paying Brown the option a good comparative value.

For a guy his size and have that athleticism you would think he would get more of an interior rush.

BB took a chance on Shelton and you hope it works out but he has been another disappointment.

Bust your ass.....

He'd played two years at NT in college, and part of his allure was his versatility, as he played all along the line during his college career. Unfortunately, you're right. At the NFL level, Brown is not a NT.

Ok I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

But. NE gave Vince a new deal and even got rid of Seymour to do so.

Ya?

Browns had the 5th ranked run defense last year. Shelton doesnt fit Williams system for some reason which sounds preposterous because he will be playing some 4 - 3 in NE too.

Peoples are trying sell that Brown is smaller than Vince.

Yes, by 6 pounds. Same height.
