nice little piece on Shelton from Hannable:
Why playing for Patriots has extra-special meaning to new DT Danny Shelton

quotes:

"Vince Wilfork is one of the greatest [defensive] tackles. For me, he’s someone that I still look up to even when he was with the Texans," he said. "I got the opportunity to reach out to him and kind of pick his brain and just learn a couple of tips from him. He’s been really responsive. He’s been a guy that has been really helpful this offseason and I’m looking forward to reaching out more and learning some more from him."

great personal story:

Playing for the Patriots has special meaning for Shelton because his father, who passed away in 2008, is buried in Boston.

"The last time I was out here in Boston was 2011 for a family reunion," Shelton said on a conference call Monday. "My dad’s side of my family is Peruvian and we haven’t really been in touch with them during my childhood. In 2011 we had the opportunity to have a family reunion and we also had the opportunity to go up to his grave site, so that was the last time I had seen my dad’s grave site. It was really just heartwarming to be there. It was a crazy story because all of the cemeteries were closed and I couldn’t get a hold of anyone to help me find my dad’s grave. Luckily, my oldest brother has great memory and all I had to do was use FaceTime and show him where I was and he got me to my dad’s grave site and we were able to take photos and take him flowers.

I’m just glad that we’re able to be closer to my dad now and to be able to play in front of him."

The browns forum says he was mediocre...are they wrong?

First, I have no clue how good Shelton is or isn't (the Browns haven't really been on my radar), but I wouldn't sweat what Cleveland fans say.....it's natural to make yourself feel better by convincing yourself that the players leaving are worse than they really are....sort of like what we did with Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins.

Now go and do your father proud Danny: Lose the bad weight (and keep it off), do your job,
and have fun whenever you & your new teammates make a good play (but not beforehand).

Watching some of his tape he looked pretty good, would bear the 1st blocker in a split second and then move to the next. He was double teamed almost every play I watched.

Oh yeah, he is a bad player

Who would've guessed?

Me. I guessed (and my friend lol). And you betcha im bringing this up

And the amount of folks here drolling over the trade, oh my

It's all about match-ups - Minnesota is a bad running team. Shelton wouldn't have been on the field for many plays against that offense.

It's good doing business with Cleveland.

He was bad last year, he’s bad this year. No real surprise. Luckily he’s gone at the end of the year. Hopefully Brown is too

Disappointing, we were able to land guys like hicks , ted w, traylor, and branch on the cheap who put in good seasons for us, sometimes you miss. Try again in the offseason

Difference being the first 3 all showed good ability the season before the Pats acquired them. They were cheap because they were old or on expiring contracts. Branch was a total head case which worked out well until last year

Shelton has never really showed a ton, he had two ok years to start his career but he was bad last year. I get why they took a shot on him but the lack of premium talent at DT has been an issue for a long time, even in the 2.5 seasons Branch played really well.
