Solid points. My main concerns would be the fact that he’s always the first one to the ball and his obvious leadership aspect.Slater is aces. I'm not sure why anyone (if there actually is outside of GDT) would have much bad to say about him. Regardless, there are teams with piles of available cash that are throwing it around pretty good. Unfortunately the Patriots don't have piles of available cash and they have glaring needs at key positions, OL and LB. There may be some tough math at work here.
Slater may be back with the Patriots. We'll see how this all plays out. However and IMHO, Slater throwing his line in the water to see what bites is a sound career move. He's approaching 33, he's dealt with significant injuries two seasons straight and the clock may be running on his NFL career. So get out there and see what offers there are. Then -- assuming the Patriots want him back and assuming he wants to return -- see what the Patriots will offer. He can then decide what's in his best interest.
Nothing wrong whatsoever with Slater doing that and nothing wrong with the Patriots taking a wait and see approach on what it will cost to re-sign him. As much as I'd like to see Slater re-sign, if it comes down to going with a cheap no name option in order to free up enough money to sign a middle of the road difference maker at LB? No contest...

I think that's 50/50.When all is said and done, Slater will be a Patriot or retire.. this could be one of those go and test the waters Matt, and then come back to see us after you get an offer..
If he wasn't turning 33 the first week of the season and his body wasn't breaking down he would have received Bademosi money in FA.Solid points. My main concerns would be the fact that he’s always the first one to the ball and his obvious leadership aspect.

Perhaps. But I still would have taken Brady over Jimmy.
Everyone looks at this as a longevity thing. Jimmy could play another 10 years while Brady might have 2 or 3 left.
But Jimmy may never have an MVP season like Brady just did. He may never go to the Super Bowl again. Rodgers and Brees have only been to one. The current top 4 highest-paid QBs haven't even won a single playoff game...combined.
Brady had an incredible season, and hopefully we can get 2 or 3 more like that. Jimmy will be good, maybe even great, but there's no guarantee he'll ever play a single season to the level that Brady has reached.

Another news not boding well for Slater to return to Foxboro.
Easley earned a spot on the Bills 2013 roster.[2] He played in all 16 games and led the NFL with 22 special teams tackles.
