I wouldn't be totally shocked if they moved on from Slater given the reasons above but it would still seem weird just based on the fact that it's Slater.“He is 32 years old, has missed 9 games in the past 2 seasons and had more tackles in 2015 than he had in the last 2 seasons combined.” - Brady6

I agree with your first point, which is why I disagree with the second. Don't think it's weird, think it's very much getting a sense of what the market will bear and then they'll talk.My guess is perhaps Slater wants a little more dough and Bill didn't want to give it, and told him to talk to another team or two and see what his market's like, then come back.
It is a little odd, though. Not many guys exemplify the prototypical "Patriot" over the last several years more than Slater does. Has been given/nominated for several different honors by the team IIRC. Weird.
"He's been injured, so they gave his money to the guy who's still rehabbing a popped ACL"
Umm.....
I think it would be weird if he was asking for a lot of money, or if he wasn't but BB wanted to pay vet minimum or something like that. I'm thinking it's probably more of the first thing, I assume they do want him back but not if he's gonna cost too much, considering the things others have mentioned - age, injuries etc.I agree with your first point, which is why I disagree with the second. I think he's a key guy to keep in the locker room.
If High didn't have creaky shoulders he would have been Jet or a Squealer. He’s just doing what Hightower did. He’ll be back
Everyone is expendable.Gotta be just setting the market. If they can stay in the ballpark, he’ll remain here. Too big of a leader to let go. Belichick is shrewd but he’s not dumb.
