I don't the Pats will miss Slater's 1 forced fumble and zero fumble recoveries on ST in, what, 8 years?????

It’s a lot like DA. He’s not as good as he was.

The question wasn't that he hasn't been good ever - he has. Its whether he's been as good this year.

I thought he was - when he played. He missed half the season with a hamstring issue that started in Camp (he missed numerous Camp sessions).

The biggest surprise to me is that he seems to be considering playing elsewhere. I was pretty sure he'd either re-sign with the Pats or retire.

Yep. Healthy he is still a top STer. Hope they can work something out but I'd be shy about paying him $2m a year when he only plays ST.

Seems to me like Ebner got the big ST payday and not Slater

Slater's last contract (2016-17) gave him a $1.8M max APY, with $600k fully-guaranteed.

Ebner's last contract (2016-17) gave him a $1.2M max APY, with $500k fully-guaranteed.
Ebner's new deal (2018-19) gives him a $2.4M max APY, with $1.2M fully-guaranteed.

Ebner succeeding Slater as the ST "quarterback" has been more or less in the cards since at least 2015. I always thought that the passing of the torch would come when Slater voluntarily retired, which I thought might be after this season. Guess not.

Im just gonna come out and say it: Slater is not worth much. His future production is actually quite limited if you consider his age and that his capablities are very linked to physicality.

And, recently, he is often injured. Are we sure he is our best ST now? Cause Im not sure.

It's not that i dont want him back, but i reckon that overpaying for him is a mistake that some other team might do

I thought BB would have talked with him and had a verbal agreement about signing later......maybe not?

Locker room at the practice center:

The Vikings locker room is over 6,500 square feet and has 95 lockers. Each locker has an air ventilation system at the top and bottom. However, the most impressive part of the locker room may be the fireplace.

I honestly don't get why the locker room environment is so important. They're just in there to put on their jerseys and take them off...

The locker room is not just the locker room. It is the locker room, the meeting rooms, the trainer’s room and the weight room. Guys that are united in their desire for the team to succeed make all those environments better. The ability to put the team ahead of your personal gain is very rare in pro sports, guys who help create that environment are worth a fortune.
Slater is one of the best and when on the field he is like a coach while performing at a high level.

My guess is perhaps Slater wants a little more dough and Bill didn't want to give it, and told him to talk to another team or two and see what his market's like, then come back.

It is a little odd, though. Not many guys exemplify the prototypical "Patriot" over the last several years more than Slater does. Has been given/nominated for several different honors by the team IIRC. Weird.

It’s either your take or Brady6 hit it on the head.

What'd Brady6 say?

“He is 32 years old, has missed 9 games in the past 2 seasons and had more tackles in 2015 than he had in the last 2 seasons combined.” - Brady6
