Jets just traded for #3 overall

If i'm the Colts i love this trade if i'm the Jets i don't mind it if it's done on draft day after the first 2 picks are done but how can they know their guy will be there at 3 as of now?

This looks like an "any QB will do" move which isn't really planning.

So you think they have 3 great grades on QBs? Seriously?

They must of got worried the Colts were going to trade the pick to someone else so they wanted to get it locked up now and hope their guy is there, that's the only explanation that makes any sense.

Such an intriguing class. You could have multiple top 5 talents falling out of the top 5.

Not disagreeing necessarily but is it the class or the desperate need at QB that makes this intriguing?

They can still take a QB at 4 but maybe not the one they wanted now.
That would mean they didn’t take one at 1 so there are still only 2 gone.

And what if the 3 highest players on there draft board are all QBs??? They might be comfortable with any of them

Then I would say that their scouting department still sucks, as there is no way all 3 are worth this investment. 1 or 2 of these QB’s may turn out to be good QB’s, the likelihood of all 3 is almost nil.

Who? What team had the need and the resources to trade up to 3 a month before the draft and settle for the leftover QB?

I wouldnt have said that before the trade. I do however think McCagnan is is competent and knows what he is doing. So I think its within the realm of possibility that they have high grades on multiple quarterbacks

If they spent 4 draft picks on allen, they are so screwed. Yes he has a cannon for an arm, but there is no disguising the 56% completion rate.

Accuracy and courage are the most important things for a qb.

What makes the 3rd QB a left over??? We have no idea how these guys feel. A left over for one team Could be another teams prized posession.

Definitely a concern

What would lead you to believe he is competent? Everything he has done tells me he is clueless.

So now you like the trade because the guy wouldn’t make it unless it was smart?

The hit rate for top 5 QBs is not great. Actively choosing to not evaluate the 3 against each other and just take the one the other 2 teams don’t want us not sound thinking.
It’s like the browns passing on a QBs at 1 and letting the giants and jets make the decision and taking the leftover at 4. Smart leadership doesn’t do that.

Buffalo?

They're in division and need a QB and have 2 first rounders for a start.

Because he is the guy the 2 other teams didn’t want.

None of us know what other teams would have done before or after the trade.
IMHO, CLE(#1), NYG(#2) are both taking QBs.
Both don't project to be at the top of the draft in the near future.
Both don't have long term answers at QB.
You can make a decent case neither will draft QB, but I think both will.
CLE (#4) will either trade down or draft non-QB.
DEN (#5) also was likely to go QB since Keenum is not a long term answer.
So NYJ had to move up to get 3rd best QB rather than 4th.
They also get a shot at better if either CLE(#1) or NYG(#2) goes non-QB.

That’s a great trade by the Jets
