Posting a new thread since the other one was closed. Make of this what you will...

Nate Solder: New England Patriots, New York Giants offered equal money

If you believe the Patriots were too cheap to re-sign their starting left tackle, Nate Solder would like to tell you otherwise.

In his introductory press conference with the Giants, Solder indicated that the Patriots' offer was in the same range as what New York paid him.

We don’t know about contract details though. We may have only offered him a 1 year contract.

Equivalent is a better description than equal.

Again, doesn’t say if we offered as much guaranteed money either.

Agree. That's what the title of the article was, though, so that's what I used for the thread.

Shocking statement.
He has a highly-respected offensive line coach.
Home in the area. If the wife's family is from CT, well, both NY and MA border the state.
Offensive linemen often like continuity, and there's every indication the rest of the line is staying.
His team makes the AFC Championship game every season, and he plays with the greatest QB in history.
His son requires special medical attention, and presumably has a relationship and history with local experts and caregivers.
And the money was the same?
That is a powerful statement from a player that there is something with this team he doesn't like.

I don’t want read too much into it, but when it’s the player saying the deals were very similar it’s hard to second guess that.

It’s hard to see anything else besides he liked the idea of playing for a terrible Giants team more

So the Patriots were going to make Nate
Solder the highest paid OL in the NFL?

Sorry Nate, I'm calling BS on that. I didn't want to dislike you, but when you pee on my shoes and tell me it's raining, you leave me with no other options. Besides I hate the team you just signed with, so now it's even easier.

Am I missing something Solder indicates the offers were in the same range. If one offer severly lacked in guarantees or term what's his motivation to state the were the same range?

Hey to someone like me who has a middle income 10 Million a year 15 Million a year will change my family the exact same way so I call that close.

Greatest dynasty in the history of football or an organization that is a complete train wreck and rarely finishes above.500 and the money was the same. Wouldn't even be a question for a competitor. I guess we know what kind of heart and pride this guy has.

That’s not really fair. There’s more than just winning that goes into these situations.

He didn't say equal money. He said somewhat equal. That's is an important detail.

If the money was about the same, it just means that he would rather play for the Giants than the Pats. Sometimes people just want a change of scenery if for nothing other than to see what another place may be like. Solder played his whole career with the Pats.

Again, he said somewhat equal, not about equal. And as long as we don't hear anything about the actual offer of the Pats this statement by itself doesn't mean much. Solder got what, 35 million guaranteed the first two years? Could be that the overall money offered by the Patriots was somewhat similar. But the guarantees lower/stretched out over a longer period/tied to incentives (per Miguel Solder's last contract with the Patriots had 46-man roster bonuses and pro bowl bonuses, he has no such conditions with the Giants' contract). And that can be a significant difference in the actual value of a contract.

With a first year head coach and Eli vs Tom I don't quite understand it.
However Im glad the Patriots didnt offer that ridiculous contract.
Looking forward to see our new Left Tackle of the Future be groomed.
