Solder watch / EDIT: Solder to NYG

Nothing they can do about that. Solder is a good player but he’s not even close to being the best OL in football, and that’s what the Giants paid him as. I could see going to 12.5-13 when pushed to it, but 15.5 is way too much.

Best of luck to him and his family.

Idk if there was even an offer on the table for that type of money. Either way he got paid. Good luck to him and his family. Now I can see tackle being addressed in the first round again when this team has some needs on defense. Maybe they can address the defense with whateva money they have.

Another big hole to fill for the Pats....Let's go Bill....What's the contingency plan?

Nice little payday to send him into retirement in 3/4 years.

It's always painful to lose players but is anyone arguing the team should've retained Butler and Solder at a level commensurate to the $$ they received elsewhere (ignoring, of course, the fact that Butler was highly unlikely to return regardless of what the Patriots offered)?

Yes, I totally agree, but it sucks nonetheless. Amendola to the Phins in particular.

While it sucks to lose Solder, good on him for getting paid. He has been a great player for the Pats and a class act, I can't blame anyone for taking that kind of money. That contract is just way out of our price range.

Good luck Nate.

The asking price for Waddle and Fleming is only 10 million per year.

Highest paid OT in the NFL!?!? Yet another GM who doesn’t understand economics.
they only had 18M in cap space before the signing, have to expect big moves coming on their part to free up more

Yeah, we were never matching that. Good for Nate and his family, I wish them all the best again.

Going forward now, at the moment, I view Cannon as our starting LT. It may not be where he's best suited, but I believe he's good enough to not be a liability. Right tackle is an open competition. Of course, I'm also expecting more moves and additions to be made, so I doubt Cannon is plan A there going into Free Agency, but if every other plan falls through, I think that's where we're at.

Solder was a very good pick, by all accounts both a good teammate & person. I’m glad he was on this team and contributed to many wins.

Having said all that, while I am concerned w LT, those dollar figures don’t make a lot of sense to me.

I think what makes this so scary is that basically the Pats now have zero OTs who (A) are under contract and (B) ended last season healthy. Weddle and Fleming are FAs, and Cannon and Garcia were on reserve lists (IR, NFI).

With Solder gone, I will be surprised if they don't draft an OT.

Likely at 31.
