Not sure about that. You take the option. He's worth it.

Not sure about that.
I loved the trade initially, now I like it even more!
“Specifically with the 6-foot-2, 335-pound Shelton, the elite trait is his size/strength combination, which fits better in a two-gap defense such as New England's than the Browns' 4-3 scheme. I spoke with someone in Cleveland who has a deep background with Shelton. Here were a few notes from that conversation...”
Picking late, Patriots look elsewhere for elite traits -- such as Danny Shelton deal
- He can be a dominant player against the run who regularly commands double-teams, making others' jobs easier.
- He plays with an edge and nasty streak: “You’re not going to whip his ass, but he’ll probably whip yours.”
- The big question is what to do on third down, because he is not a pass-rusher, which also ties into how to value him from a financial standpoint.
- He practices hard and plays hard, although his temper has bitten him at times in the past.
Ideally I'd like to see him in the system first but they do not have that luxury .IDK.
At this point, the odds seem significantly greater that Shelton succeeds rather than faceplants.
His 5th-year option will cost the Pats "around $7M" (according to Miguel), so the Pats would be getting two seasons of Shelton for around $9M total ($4.5 APY). That's only slightly more than Branch's last extension ($4.2M APY), and Shelton is 8 years younger.

Your AAV scenario makes complete sense.
My preference is to get him in a 3 year deal w $7m guarantees and spread the cap hit.
If they pick up the option I assume they can redo his deal and spread the cap hit?
Seems like a fun guy.
Gabriel had 33 catches for 378 yards last year...in a very good offense with a good QB. World-beater, I tell ya.

Wow. I was unaware of the fact they barely played.Regarding point #3 by Reiss, good thing we have the rookie leader in QB pressures at DT.
Danny Shelton gets us to more 3rd & 6+ & Adam Butler enters the field. Boom. Definitely another underrated problem in the SB was that Reiss said postgame Butler/Wise barely played since it was always 3rd & short rather than 3rd & 5+.
And just think Traylor came out of college and played in the NFL originally as a LB.I don't know but Keith 'Tractor' Trailer was pretty big.
Obviously, the Pats acquired Shelton in response to Lane Johnson's comments about the Pats player having no fun.
Seriously, though, I could see this guy and Gronk becoming instant buds.
Can’t agree on the DE’s being set. We have no clue what Rivers is, HT doesn’t stay healthy, and Flowers is good player, but it’s not like he’s dominating or anything.I disagree. The front is set now. Focus on the LB's. The front has two rotational big bodies in VV and Shelton + Brown, Guy and Butler as DL's. That's solid as hell.
Hightower, T. Flowers as LB/DE's.. + Rivers??
That's looking pretty damn good to me.
Seems like a fun guy.
Size, strength, smarts, technique ..... and attitude? Yeah, I think he checks all the boxes.
I know it's a mic'd up youtube about how fun he is, but it's concerning that the first highlight of him - played twice - is him eating up a double-team but not really getting close to the ball (ie, not even in the neighborhood of batting it down) or getting close to the QB, and it appears to be a completed pass play. The angle's tough to judge on those "didn't get close" calls, but that's the highlight? Yes he did command a double-team, but either I don't understand line play well enough (quite likely), or it's scary to see the "promo vid" being about how fun he is.
Now I will say this, he apparently has enough energy to do little dances when not on the field, so that makes you guess high motor for a big guy. But if he does that and is flagging before other guys, let's go with "no fun."
The other highlight was how excited he was on the sideline when he wasn't in the game, and somebody else intercepted the ball. I mean, that's better than sulking about not personally being in on the play... but dang.
Okay all that said, I like the quotes about him, in BB I trust, and let's see how he fits in. If he's not all that at DT, well, he's always got a future as a backup QB for the Gintz
