Sherman Signs with 49ER'S (Updated)

They were super aggressive with Gilmore. His agent claims that they were the first team to call with an offer that no one could refuse. What you’re suggesting is a much more passive approach where Sherman visits a bunch of other teams and we somehow lure him in at the last minute when all of the hype is over.

The Pats are sometimes "quiet" in the sense that there's no media build-up to a trade or a signing.

Since when has Jimmy G proven himself a “Great” Qb?

Jimmy G is better than average. He proved himself with the Pats and SF. As for being great he needs team around him and SF is trying to build that team.

I assume this is how they would have done it and not through back channels.

Like the FOs of most good teams, the Pats have a lot of reliable information sources, and not necessarily even back-channels in the sense of trench coat disguises and whispers in dark alleyways. Teams that have trusted relationships with each other may share some information voluntarily. There's certainly a crap-tonne of stuff that happens in places that the media has no access to.

Don’t see him signing with a first year hc.

Those are sometimes the most gratifying ones.

Like this one with Shelton. The media had no effing clue until after the deal was done. Nary a suggestion that the Pats might be after an NT. Not sexy enough for the rumor mill.

Credit to the Browns for keeping it quiet, too, though.

Richard Sherman wastes no time in seeking new deal elsewhere day after Seahawks release

He has made it known he’s also gotten preliminary interest from the Titans, Lions, Raiders, Texans, Buccaneers and Packers. In other words, a quarter of the league.

What about us?

Another team that has an elite quarterback that attracts Sherman: New England. But you probably don’t want to think about that. The Patriots entered Saturday with $20 million available under the salary cap--and that’s before they traded Saturday morning for Danny Shelton, the former Auburn High School and Washington Huskies star defensive tackle. Shelton has been scheduled to have a $3.7 million cap charge in 2018, the final year of his rookie contract as a first-round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns in 2015.

SO... Could someone please provide evidence that suggests that Richard Sherman will take a "Darelle Revis" contract? Thanks.

I would guess he’s going to San Fran. No reported interest from New England whatsoever yet.

Not the end of the world if he doesn't come here, but disappointing nonetheless.

Is Trumaine Johnson a possibility? He’s much younger and is also long and lean. Might be happier if we get him...

We trade for Clowney yet?
