Sherman Signs with 49ER'S (Updated)

Exactly! This is a good way to lose most of them in this crazy market.
Then we'd lose them anyway, if another team gives these guys huge contracts, they weren't signing here anyway.

Idk, but for some odd reason, the fact that there is very very little Richard Sherman news leads me to believe (hope) that NE is currently working under the radar to acquire Sherman. This is typically how we operate; especially with big name FAs. Hopefully, that’s the case.

To put it plainly, I really want Sherman to be a Patriot.

Sherman and Gilmore would make me giddy.
Now if the crazy Clowney Rumor comes to fruition I'd be dancing in the streets I love a good defense way more than a number 1 offense.
I really don't like when on third down you know the opposing QB has a 80 percent chance to complete the pass.

Has any team signed a FA of Sherman's caliber coming off such a major injury, when they currently can't pass a physical? I can't recall it happening. He may not sign with any team, for quite a while.

Drew Brees to the Saints?
Didn't Miami say he failed their physical and Miami signed Culpepper and Brees went to New Orleans.

I thought the dolphins failed him on his physical, that's why he wasn't signed. If I remember correctly they had a deal finalized but the failed physical nixed it

Hey, I’m in total agreement with you here. But let us speculate for a second that Sherman agrees to come here for a 7M hit, and plays well. Who is out there on DL and LB that would have as big of an impact as Sherman would? This is an honest question. I’d love to be dreaming about some DT’s or stud LB’s but I dont see many out there. I’d like to snag Preston Brown, but not at that big of a hit. School me!

For DL, it might be just as possible to get Dontari Poe on a contract that keeps his 2018 cap hit down to $7M. At LB, Bradham might be a couple million cheaper than Brown.

The DL and the LB unit need experienced hands more than the secondary does. And, with more experience on the DL and at LB, draftees are a bit more likely to develop faster, without needing to handle a crap-tonne of snaps as rookies.

SF could be a good fit for him as well..that team is turning it around

The Patriots are a perfect team for Sherman.
They have the great quarterback he desires.
He won't demand one cent more than Stephon Gilmore.

The Pats don't have anywhere near enough cap space to sign another Gilmore-level contract with anyone.

I'll go ahead and say it then --- SIGN THE BEAST!!

We would have the most stacked secondary since 2014 and the NFL has become a passing league. Yes we'd still need to add 1 LB and 1 Passrusher, but who could we sign on the cheap with our cap space who would still make an impact for us?

Yeah I'm sure the Colts are running out of 'Runner Up Banners' to raise to the rafters. I'm surprised they didn't raise a 'Not Last Place in Division' banner, but realized they finished 4-12, a tie with the Texans for last place.

"Passing league"? Sure. Whatever.

Except that what screwed the defense last season was truly suck-ass run defense. It wasn't the lack of a "stacked secondary".

Perhaps an agreement or contract terms will be announced but with the condition "pending a physical" or something.

The question that is buzzing around my brain is whether or not the Patriots have
reached out to Solder, Lewis, Burkhead, Amendola,Waddle, or Fleming with a
reasonable offer. My guess is they have not.

The fact that we fans haven't heard anything about it dosn't mean that it hasn't happened. We also haven't heard that the Pats have NOT "reached out".

The sports media has been kinda busy lately confirming each other's speculations about the Pats reaching out and/or bidding on Tailb, Bennett, Sherman, etc., etc. And we all know that very few of them can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Certainly can't sign a 30 year old off achilles injury to that kind of money even if they did.

Here's how I think of it: If you sign a good CB in free agency, you don't need to draft one with your top picks. Instead, you can fill up 3 needs with those 3 top picks - including DL and LB.

Except that, the secondary has way more NFL experience that either the DL or the LB unit (which had nearly zero after HT went to IR). Add the experience to THOSE units, add the high-round rookie to the secondary.

Makes m e think they're going to create some more cap space somehow with our needs.
