Earl Thomas to be traded? Should Patriots pursue

I feel like If Thomas hits the market Dallas becomes his #1 destination. From seeing him chase Garrett down the tunnel after their game last year it’s not within the realm of possibility that he wants to finish his career closer to home.

Giving up anything for a $10.4m cap hit that doesn't address a position of immediate need isn't exactly where I see the Pats headed. YMMV

Harrison wasn't a position of need when we brought him in. We had Lawyer and uh, someone else. Plus other guys.

Of course Rodney cost several million less per year than Milloy as opposed to Thomas costing $7m more than Chung but um yeah...you know... other than that, pretty much the same thing.

What does their salary relative to the existing starter matter, MR PROFESSOR ONLINE POSTER GUY?

Wow, cap lock even.

McCourty and Chung will be 31 at the beginning of the season.

Thomas is not going to be a member of the Patriots this season. The Patriots don't need an S1 or S2. They've got that covered. What they need is an S3 (or S4, depending on what you consider Chung to be at this point).

what they need is a couple of monsters to smash the pansy back-up QB's in the 1st quarter of title games and create a turtle QB the rest of the game. HIT HIT HIT HIT!!!! Smash that smug little pr1ck early and often. You'll find that it wasn't the secondary after all.

Great player, bad idea. Too much money and too injury prone. And safety is a position where they could still get a top prospect drafting at #31.

I don’t put safety at the top of their needs but if they did then they could get a good one much cheaper in the draft, giving up a top pick and over 8 million is foolish. Love Thomas as a player but this is just a bad idea.

This is exactly what angered me even more than the Butler decision. Whenever we go up against a weak or backup qb, our game plan seems to be so TEPID in regard to this obvious physical and mental flaw in the QB who seems to be just asking for a gun-ho attack. IT MAKES NO SENSE. It eats away at me. WHY WHY??

Why would this make any sense? McCourty is an excellent FS and arguably the most valuable player on the entire defense (that is his absence would be most difficult to replace). Harmon is also a very good FS and would start at FS on most teams who only use one. Earl Thomas is a great player, but free safety is literally the most well-stocked position on the team.

Don’t bring logic and reasoning into this.. supporters of this seem to think that there is no distinction between the two starting safety positions and that all roles/obligations of each are the same

They blitzed on the first three passes of the game. It didn’t work then (or really the rest of the game either), but it wasn’t due to lack of trying.

They blitzed a number of times the entire game, Sciz. My point is, they're blitzing ST'ers masquerading as starting LB's. What I want is at least one and preferably two GAME CHANGER defensive studs in that front 7. Players that can occupy space in the QB's head from the first snap. Belechick had LT, Harry Carson, Carl Banks and Leonard Marshall on the field at the same time...where's our 2018 equivalent to THAT proven talent on the Patriots? I just want two...I'll take a Marshall and Banks..or even one LT.

When Hightower's on the shelf, they might not even have a guy who could be a backup to LT, Harry Carson, Carl Banks and Leonard Marshall, nevermind a guy who could play with that quartet.

I was thinking Tebucky Jones no?

Traded Tebucky that off-season. Cut Victor Green. Completely remade the safeties. Harris was the holdover, and after he got exposed in the week 1 drubbing against Byffalo, with no better ideas they stuck Eugene Wilson back there. And then Wilson was a stud as a safety.

I was a big fan of Lawyer Milloy and Tebucky Jones back in the day. I liked Jones because he had an unique name and he was from CT, just like me.
I also became a fan of Eugene Wilson and he was a solid player for us. I want to say he started as a CB and they moved him to safety. Same draft as Asante Samuel right?
