Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

He could be right. But why activate him and make him stand on the sidelines if he wasnt good enough to give you 1 single snap ? Ok he didnt start him. Ok he didnt put him as the 2nd option with bademosi .Ok he didnt put him with richards getting torched . why activate him ? Couldve used branch or gilleslie instead. I dont know why it is wrong to ask this question.
No I think you missed my point. If Rappaport is correct, then this makes no sense at all.

Yup, and he stunk it big time there. And they picked on him. The wanted to stay away from Butler and what do the Pats do, bench Butler.

They actually wanted to pick on Rowe the most since the eagles thought he was a liability. If Butler plays, you can move Chung to his regular position in covering the TE. The butler benching reverberated throughout the defense and it showed.

This is a horrific mess. Players and coaches have busted their tails for a year, and from the reports of anger, feel like their head coach bailed on them at the finish line. He did not just make a mistake, he persisted in an action that hurt the chances of the team in the SB. How do you fix that? How do you get players to buy in again? Kraft needs to handle this - because the trust between the team and coach is shot. Kraft needs to make BB aware that he needs to address this with the team.

BB should bench himself for the 1Q in the first game of the 2018 season.:p

And you have no confirmation Butler missed a flight, a meeting, and blew up at his coaches.

You should probably sit the next few plays out. Your posts are laughable.

Confirmation? Lmao

Umm, nope, just not a moron.

All I know is Aaron Hernandez played in a super bowl after being part of double homicide so whatever Butler did had to have involved at least 3 murders.
Jesus don't go there....

We'll be known as the PatriCrips

There really has to be more to the story. I find it hard to believe with how many hours Bill puts in preparing throughout the season that he would risk losing the biggest game of the year due to a couple of poor practices and a minor rule violation by benching his Cb2 for an entire game. Especially when the defense is getting embarrassed.

If he did he is an idiot, but I don't think Bill is an idiot and there is more to the story.

That's what bothers me so much. You can accept losing after giving it everything you had or even losing on a flukey play that just didn't go your way. But this was our Head Coach choosing to sabotage us. Bill put his ego before the good of the team. Kraft has already said of the tension lately that egos "need to be checked", and we certainly got an eyeful of it this game.
Oh yeah . Bill's ego was on full display.

Give me a goddamn break.

BB sat M.Butler costing the Pat's a victory? After sleeping (somewhat) on this and reading Butler posts and an article from the Herald. I want to revisit the decision not to play Butler. First, if Butler did anything anti-Patriot, BB would never say anything. Some fans, were upset when BB benched Welker for mouthing off. There is a reason why the Patriots have gone to so many Superbowls. It's called the Patriots way. BB traded Garoppolo to the 49er's for less then Cleveland's offer. Yet, traded Collins to Cleveland for less then he could have gotten elsewhere. Did we ever hear BB badmouth Collins. I'm guessing Butler F*** up as did Collins. In the long-run, benching Butler was the right thing to do (assuming he F***up). Although, you will disagree if you think Welker should have played.

Yeah, because doing so resulted in the offense playing like crap and losing.

Patriots also lost the first game without Collins. Where the defense played like crap.

The defense playing like crap after benching Butler was entirely predictable.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face comes to mind.

I guess BB taught the players a lesson. He would rather lose without him than win with him. Not sure the players agree with that.

Agreed. It was clearly more important to Bill to punish Malcolm than it was to win this game. Maybe he'd gotten spoiled and felt Brady could win it without a Defense. Tom certainly came very close. It's unheard of for the losing Super Bowl quarterback to set the record for most passing yards in a SB game in history, keep his team from punting even once the whole game, and have a better QBR and more yards than the winning quarterback and SB MVP. If I were Tom--with all I'd done and everything I'd sacrificed, only to have my head coach snatch victory away from me because he was busy throwing a temper tantrum and couldn't be bothered to do his job--I wouldn't want to see Bill's face until training camp.

Then Bill screwed up big time. Why would you upset the apple cart the day of the game? The pats players were all expecting to see Butler out there and to find out just hours before that he isn't playing just screws up everything. It's Bill putting his rules ahead of the W. I'm sorry but if Butler was not practicing well during the week this should have been resolved a few days before the game, not the day of. If Butler plays poorly in the first quarter then go ahead and bench him.
Exactly

I don’t believe Rapoport...sorry it just doesn’t add up....in the 4th quarter and your defense is getting trashed you have to try something else and you have one of the better CB’s in the league on the sideline...just....doesnt....add....up

#deliberate-f-up
I'm not buying what Rapafart says at all.

There is more to this than a curfew violation.

Yes, apparently punishing Butler for a few bad practices and a minor rule violation than giving your team a chance to win.

Yup, you show the players who's in charge here, Bill.

For me personally this is a lot more difficult to take than 2011 and even 2007.

What bothers me is that we had historic, incredible performances by Amendola who had over 150 yards, Gronk with 116 and 2 TD, Hogan with 128 and a TD and Brady with 505 and 3 TD, plus great game by the offensive line except for one play and excellent games by Burkhead and White.

All of that down the drain because the defense was atrocious and for some reason the coaches thought not playing a guy that has had tons of great plays and has missed one start in three years wasn’t good enough.

I just can’t get over it.

And if this is all there is, how big of a hit does BB's reputation take for this loss. I love the guy for what he has done, but this is a near top of the list coaching f up if this is all there is to it.

I don't buy that BB decided to punish Butler for the whole game.

My guess is a mix of Butler's illness and some minor discipline issue prompted Bill to give the nod to Rowe.

Maybe then it became apparent to Belichick that Butler's head wasn't right.

His emotional reaction during the anthem might be indicative that Butler was in melt down and BB decided he simply couldn't trust him?

Who knows?
Certainly it's a sad end to Scraps Patriot career.

Then why the f*ck was Malcolm still standing on the sideline, with his helmet on, in the 3rd and 4th quarters watching the secondary get carved up? What rational reason is there? Even if he's sick or high, he can't possibly be worse than Bademosi or Rowe. And if it was disciplinary, then BB is a f*cking moron. You don't bench your best defense player for an entire SUPERBOWL. This isn't just a normal game.

I was kind of accepting of the loss when it happened last night because it's hard to be that good for so long, but this is looking more and more like a major f'up by the coach. The players all looked kind of shell shocked by the decision.

This year, Malcolm Butler led the Patriots' defense with 5 turnovers and 12 passes defensed.
