Gronk won’t commit to playing next year - considering retirement?

He needs to “think about the future”. Gronk is not the most eloquent guy out there, and there is no reason that he should be discussing his future plans 5 minutes after a heart breaking loss anyways.

Most likely it’s a combination of a poor choice of words and bad timing that is triggering this response.

We are guaranteed to win next year. Saban won his 6th in Atlanta at age 66 this year. Next year Bill will win his 6th in Atlanta at age 66. All part of the script

Injuries are a concern for Gronk, I’m sure. He’s already has a couple concussions, blown out knee, 3 back surgeries, and several arm surgeries. One ankle surgery after SB 46 I believe too. Just a boatload of injuries and surgeries. That may cause his heart not to be in it anymore. Or it could just be the pain of the SB loss.

I like it, but I don’t see us being better next year. This was Belichick’s shot at 6.

He's dealt with enough injuries in his career that if he chooses to retire I don't blame him at all and wish him the best. Hope he stays, obviously, but if he hangs em up we gotta support him, he's given the team everything for 8 solid years

.

It’s not only the ******** calls. It’s easy to see when a team has orders to throw a game. Missed tackles everywhere, blown coverages, QB not getting touched, not playing one of your best players etc

I should have listened to the dude on youtube. who said after week 3 the Eagles would win the super bowl with Foles beating us. He said in October 2015 was scripted for Broncos to beat panthers and Miller to win the mvp too. Also said before last years super bowl that the patriots would win in a comeback and two important numbers were 25 and 62. Has been talking all year about how it’s scripted for Bill to get 6 in Atlanta next year, where Saban got 6 this year. Saban was 66 this year. Bill will be 66 next season
"I should have listened to the guy on YouTube" does not normally precede a logical thought.:) But now I'm curious who this person is.

Hate to pour salt on an open wound, but figured it’s worth sharing.

You could argue he'll retire sooner than Tom will.

I think hes just mentally drained and taking the loss hard.

He'll be back.

He seemed taken aback by that question.

Do you really think he’s going to call it quits after this devastating loss?

I’m sure all of these guys are itching to get back onto the field.

Unfinished business for sure.

@Ian 's piece makes it even more interesting, in particular the bit about how Gronk was surprised the reporter asking the question knew about it. That tells me that Florio's tweet yesterday afternoon had something behind it and wasn't just clickbaiting.

If Gronk retires, this offense will take a hit of epic proportions... the guy, but mere virtue of being on the field, changes whole defensive schemes.

I would quit football as soon as I was set financially

too many of them are physical and mental wrecks later in life

Reminds me of the BB quote I'm going to butcher: "We haven't seen a defense play two high safeties since 2010."

I think Gronk has other options, I could see him try to catch a small role in movies like Expendables or other Stallone kinda movies. There is the Mark Wahlberg connection as well.

He is famous, funny, good looking and a monster. He would be allowed to even grow more lean mass out of sports, if you know what I mean.

Probably 1 or 2 movies and he gets more money than the average NFL player. He got his money early on and it was good for him but he is a 100Mi dollar player playing a 40Mi contract because of the timing he got his extension, I think he feels a little used for that, even if legally right. Everyone would.

Then there's the injuries. I think he plays another couple seasons but I would not be surprised, he took a nice shot 2 weeks ago and then what was that with Cooks yesterday, i thought he was dead.

It tells me the opposite, that it’s a fake story and Gronk was caught off guard because he never said that.

The NFL is already dead. If you read that article in the NYT from the wife of a player who played 5 years it’s over. I enjoy watching the game but would never want anyone I cared about to play. I played at a high level through college and am worried myself now. I had concussions and lost consciousness 2x. One time I was just out while the other I just woke up somewhere without knowing how I got there. I was walking and responding but have no memory I think Brady is a fool for playing still.

Yea i wouldn't let my kids play football with all the new studies out now

The other reason is that there is still a culture of people who are out there trying to hurt people, and until that is reigned in I would never consider it

My wife's good friends husband is an insanely muscular dude that plays Semi Pro football in new York.. he works out like it's a religion and is built like a steroided out linebacker

Against the Jags in the AFCCG he was saying on Facebook something like "Hahaha, time to go nite nite Gronky" and was taking pleasure in the illegal hit knocking him out of the game

He did the same thing last night laughing at Cooks, with something like "hahaha, keep your head on a swivel Cooks... nap time now, nite nite" and posts constantly about playing that style of football

I had a tenant I was renting to and we got into talking about football and how we both played back in the day, and I made a comment about how the sport is inherently dangerous and people will get hurt, but I don't respect the players that intentionally make dirty hits to injure players

His response was that he and a few guys on defense spent time every game intentionally trying to injure other players with spearing, etc... he was legitimately confused by my stance on the issue and was bragging/proud about being a head Hunter

No way I would expose my kid to that these days... you have some people out there playing by the rules, playing the game hard... but then you have some others that are out there head hunting and all it takes is 1 Neanderthal who's father is like my wife's friend to go out there and put your kid in a wheelchair, or give them massive head trauma that will hinder them the rest of their lives... or worse, kills them

Football is a violent sport and I have nothing against someone laying a big hit on someone else as long as it's within the rules of the game with respect to the players health. There are still a lot of head hunters out there tho that play dirty and pride themselves on it... the game is dangerous enough within the rules, but that type of mentality/culture just takes it to a more dangerous and unnecessary level.

I think there were 4 or 5 highschool players that died playing football last year. It's really not worth it.

I wouldn’t read into this...losing team players sometimes say dumb **** like this

This board is officially nonsensical. It's embarrassing.

Agreed. Lots of easily trolled pats fans who believe media trollwork. If the media was so smart, they would have had the butler news nailed before kick off.
