Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Because as you have seen with Cooks injuries happen and we were already missing J. Jones as a depth option.

I’m all for this option of keeping him
Active for this reason, I’m also all for it if the players on the field are doing a poor job.

Then why not make him inactive?
My guess is that it’s as simple as none of the other guys having anything worthwhile to offer. They could have used peak Branch on this defense tonight, but we have no idea what kind of state he’s in either. After that it’s what, Hollister active to cover kickoffs instead of Butler doing it? Seems like not much to give up for the ability to give Butler one last chance to show that he’s capable of starting and delaying the Eagles’ game planning for a Butler-less defense.

To everyone who thinks Belichick owes them an explanation, this is what you deserve:

This is the first time im actually worried about the kraft -bb - brady rift, krafts comments last week had me a bit uneasy but not very close ncernes. You know kraft and brady cant be happy with this and its ramifications.
Yup, and with rumors that McDaniels is now backing away from the Colts, I predict him to get the head coaching position and for Belichick to take over the Colts :)

"This was a game in which the Patriots did not punt once. Tom Brady threw for a Super Bowl-record 505 yards and added three touchdowns. The Patriots compiled 613 yards of offense, another Super Bowl record. New England posted 33 points – the second-most it has ever scored in a Super Bowl, behind only last year’s 34-point performance in overtime against the Falcons. Sunday's output also set a Super Bowl mark for the highest total scored by a team that lost.

Simply put, the New England offense did enough to win. The defense lost the game.

That makes the absence of Butler – who, despite an inconsistent 2017 season, had been one of New England’s top defensive backs – all the more confounding.

Said cornerback Eric Rowe, the man who replaced Butler in the starting lineup: “We could’ve used anybody.”

Rowe, for his part, said he did not know he was going to start until right before kickoff."

And then the understatement of the article: "Then New England’s defense allowed Philadelphia to score the game’s last nine points in two drives. 'I didn’t do a good enough job,' defensive coordinator Matt Patricia said."

Malcolm Butler roiled by Super Bowl benching as Patriots defense collapses

Hey guys its ok. Eventhough we have now heartlessly alienated a CB who made some legendary plays for us and will be letting him walk after this season, we still have the star talent of:

CYRUS JONES, LOCKDOWN CORNER OF THE GODS

To start for us next season. Elite WRs don't stand a chance.

We clearly missed Hightower and having a true NT with Alan Branch out. As much as I like Malcolm Brown, I think he's better as the UnderTackle or a DE in a 3 man set than as the NT. RJF and Guy also make good rotational DEs..

I don't know if Roberts will ever learn not to over-commit to his gap. He did so a few times and ended up on the sidelines in favor of Marquis Flowers.

I was disappointed that we didn't see much of Wise tonight. I think that allowed the Eagles to key on Trey Flowers and limit the Patriots pass-rush.

For reasons I'm not sure of, BB seems to be a bit more conservative in his scheming in Super Bowls, e.g. not relying on rookies if he can avoid it.

But what.could he have shown that would convince BB that there was nothing he could do to help the D at all?

So very sad the Malcom Butler saga in New England ends like this.

Should have left with 3 rings in 4 years then go get his big payday somewhere else.

Instead, he leaves like this with a forever hatred (rightfully so) towards Belichick watching a secondary get LIT UP with him being unable to do anything

I guess we know how Pittsburgh felt against Jax. Many analysts were perplexed about Butler's benching. Will make for good talk show discussion.

I find it ridiculous considering the guy won us a damn super bowl. Had that play not been made we would be talking about how bb's overrated as a defensive genius. Play the guy on the field!

I am just hoping Cyrus can field a punt without muffing it.

I sincerely hope that everyone collectively remembers this game as belichick's Waterloo. Brady did everything in his power to dig them out of this hole, but belichick and Patricia devised a defense so terrible they they should have one super bowl subtracted from their lifetime record. **** them both.

"Malcolm! GO!...Sit on the bench!"

Who fell down on that 3rd and 7 td that won the game

You'e telling me butler couldn' of gone out there and fell down?

Bill may very well be over rated in defense.

I mean. This game is on his resume and that' a fact.
