Idle thoughts - pregame rant edition

The hate has reached an all time high this time. I guess I still can't handle it since I don't understand it. Did people hate the Bulls, Yankees and 49ers this much. It drives me crazy to the point I had a argument with my friend's wife who is rooting for the Eagles. She is not a sports fan but wants to see someone else win. Not a good scene at the restaurant last night.

Not your fault pal, I’m sure your buddy was glad he didn’t have to argue with her for a change.

Wow, nice write up.
How many hours did that take?

It’s been 48 days since Pats forced a turnover

Absolutely they were hated, they merely enjoyed the non-existence of social media. Now haters can voice their displeasure to millions of eyeballs. Plus our country is generally much more wussified than those times and jealousy is incurable as Bob said.

Re: Ken's hatred of the collinsworth et. al. whining about the run vs. pass in sb 49. I could not agree more. When I rewatched the sb 49 broadcast not long ago it pissed me off even more listening to cc *****ing about it instead of having ANY praise for the quality of play MB made. Also his constant ballghazi whining throughout the game was horrible. I think that was the game in which I started actively loathing him.

As a companion to that, I offer my hatred of the equally wrong narrative that "Lee Evans dropped the ball" in the 2011 afcc. HE.DID.NOT.DROP.THE.
BALL.
Sterling Moore made a fantastic play to strip him of it. A few years ago, someone said that same dumb comment about Evans on nfln in front of Willie Mac and he corrected them. Loved it!

Just put in my Rolling Stones greatest hits... first 2 songs ‘ time is on my side’ and ‘ I can’t get no satisfaction’ pretty much sums up the goat

Yes, yes, yes....!!!

You hit on one of my two pet peeves. Sterling Moore made a great play in that Ravens game. Then the narrative became "Lee Evans drops ball, Ravens lost game, Patriots didn't win the game, Patriots luck out again!" Drove me nuts!!

As for Collingsworth, I wish someone would mention one of the most devastating fumbles in a key game was his fumble in Super Bowl XVI

Down 7-0, the Bengals were driving toward a touchdown, Ken Anderson connected with wide out (and current NBC analyst) Cris Collinsworth at the Niners' five-yard-line. But just as Collinsworth could make his way up field for a TD, Eric wright forced a fumble. Then San Francisco recovered on their own eight, then marched 92 yards for a touchdown

Super Bowl is all the worst parts of football (too many commercials, halftime show, narrative - in a word, the whole spectacle) ramped up to 11. I hate it. I wouldn't watch it if the Patriots weren't playing.

I disagree with this analysis. The other teams are NOT the best franchise of all time, having the best run of all time.

Is it really unreasonable to believe that Josh and Patricia (and perhaps Judge) have been important to the success of the patriots, and will be difficult to replace?

The alternative view (of some patriot posters) is that Brady (sometime adding Belichick) is basically unbeatable, and it really doesn't matter who else plays or coaches.

We can CHOOSE to believe that losing coaches doesn't matter. We can CHOOSE to believe that it matters not who is lost in free agency and to injury as long as Brady is healthy. That is OUR choice as patriot fans.

IMHO, it is unreasonable to expect others to believe as we do some. It is NOT unreasonable to believe that losing coaches is important.

As the week's "festivities" come to a close I felt the urge to rant a bit about the week's activities.

1. I've heard a lot of crap about how the loss of Patricia and McDaniels (and perhaps an additional assistant or 2) will somehow cripple the Pats in the future. I found that line of thinking odd since several teams have undergone much bigger coaching losses without this topic ever being brought up. T;)

Your DVR really don't work?

I have not watched commercials, pre-game shows or half-time shows for many, many years.

Are you really asking us whether fans of other teams hated/hate the Yankees? With respect, how old you?

Does anyone actually watch the 6 hr the pregame coverage?

I used to enjoy watching the 30 minute Superbowl recaps of yesterday

That voice. .

I'm from New England so my view of all things New York is a bit biased. My question is if casual fans that hate Tom Brady, BB and the Patriots now held as much dislike for other wining teams. Of course Red Sox and Mets fans hate the Yankees. Have we always had this jealousy and utter contempt for success? Or is this a new phenomenon?

Also was there a outpouring of contempt for the 49ers when they won all those championships?

I tried to have this conversation last night and it did not go over well. Maybe I'm not asking the right question.

And I'm older than most posters here on the board.

Bring back cosell!

Collinsworth is one dimensional and only insults one side. I liked it better when Howard would elaborately insult both teams.

Wasent so much a good play by the offense, just a horrible play by the defense

People hated the Yankees in 2001 way more than people hate the Pats now. They were going for a four peat, and 5 out of 6, and everyone on earth celebrated when Mo Rivera choked at the end of game 7.

Sorry, I have to disagree. Pre 9/11, you are right that there was hatred and jealousy of the Yankees. 9/11 softened it and while many of the haters weren't rooting for the Yankees, they certainly weren't celebrating as much when Arizona won.... empathizing for what the city went through and how the team was a needed distraction...

Don't have a DVR. Don't even pay for cable.

Our fantasy football league has a party every year and most of the people there actively care more about the game than the spectacle and a few are Patriots fans, so it's a friendly environment. Otherwise, Super Bowls can get ****ed.

Why do you think there's a play/movie titled, "Damn Yankees"?
