The only teams that have really shut down Brady have done it with an overwhelming pass rush that doesn't rely on blitzing all the time. 2007 and 2011 Giants, 2015 Broncos. The Eagles don't have that but everyone seems to be talking about them like they do.

This... is not a difficult concept?

Tom Brady was sacked 0 times in the 2012 AFC championship game. They scored 13 points. They lost by 15.

Brady was hit 7 times on 54 Pass attempts

The eagles can get after the quarterback, Im not sure why you think they Can not

Yep. Brandon Graham brings plenty of pressure.

I have a love affair with fletcher cox. I know a lot of people know how good he is, But I still feel he is underrated

This a talented defense with a coordinator who knows what he is doing.

Alshon Jeffrey is a flat track bully, always has been. Super talented, but when the going gets tough and his team fall a couple of scores behind, he starts to phone it in.

I think he's a wrecking machine who will make his presence felt.

This Iggles D is no joke.

One quick thought:
Should we do a lot of play action knowing they do a lot more pinch and high motor rushing? I think you have Brady just straight drop from under center or shotgun and eat their corners and backers up especially if they are playing off.

More worried abut our D than our O. Given the diversity of pass catchers, flood the field in the middle and short. Rely on Butler and Gilmore on the edges, and force Foles to make those outside throws. What is Foles' arm strength like? Can he throw an accurate out? Comeback?

I wouldn't let the Eagles have their way over the middle.

Of course this may leave you vulnerable to the deep throw.

And swing passes to the backs in the flat.

BUT--I would say you make Foles make the difficult throws. Don't give him this cheesy stuff.

One thing that's funny to me. After the Jags defense gave up 500+ yards and 40+ points to the Steelers, to many it was considered an aberration, a fluke. That wasn't an indicator of how good their defense really is. It was the talent and entire body of work that counted. As you saw, the Jags defense was a formidable foe and wasn't giving up monster plays like they did against Pittsburgh. We had to tire them out and then strike in the 4th quarter.

But Philadelphia's offense, who'd been nearly putrid since Wentz got hurt, has a really big game against Minesota, that same 1-game aberration logic doesn't apply? They were underdogs against Minnesota and Atlanta for a reason. Their offense has been very inconsistent. I don't care, one game doesn't change that. Philly's defense is good but it's not any better than Jacksonville's, in fact its inferior in some areas. Nothing BB and TB12 can't handle.

Great teams are consistent...and that's the Patriots in a nutshell!

Cross-posting this, the Eagles D is basically worse at everything than the Jags D. It's still GOOD, but it's just not on the same level of dominance.

The Eagles defense is not better than the Jaguars in almost every category on Pro-Football-Reference. The big ones:

Opponents' Red Zone Scoring: Jax 39% - Phi 55%

Opponents' PPG: Jax 16.8 - Phi 18.4

Opponents' Yards: Jax 4578 - Phi 4904

Opponent's Completion Percentage: Jax 56.8% - Phi 60.4%

Opponents' passing ypg: Jax 169 - Phi 227

Takeaways: Jax 33 - Phi 31

Cooks certainly looked good on the deep comebacks vs the Jags. I'm not nearly ready to gameplan this game, but from what i'm reading, Cooks and Hogan stand to have good games against meh CBs.

At this point, Tuesday before the Tuesday before, I am so confident in Brady/Belichick/McDaniels/Patricia. At some point next Sunday, Philly has to look across the field and say "holy chit, that's the GOAT. The GOATS!" I just don't think the Pats will lose.

This must be how Yankee fans feel. All. The. Time. Philadelphia will see ghosts. Belichick will have them conditioned better, and better game planned than Philly. Now in the next 10 days, I may start to have anxiety about it, but not today.

Their front 4 scares me...Im hoping our OL can give Tommy boy enough time or he's gonna have to get rid of the football quik. This is where we need Julian the most. But looking how DA and Lewis play it's should be good.James white need to play big on this game too as he's a nightmare matchup too.

True but I think we can attack their corners. I can see cooks having another big game.

I would open up in the hurry up offense and spread them out with the passing game. I would use screens as runs and don't waste too many plays running into a brick wall. I think Philly will have issues with the Pats RB's but I also think the Pats will have problems covering Ertz and with Ajayi on wheel routes and screens. I am predicting a slightly higher scoring game and going with 30-24 Pats, and tight throughout the contest. I would for once like to see the Pats open up with a lead and it would be great to score a TD on the first drive. If Philly doesn't generate significant pressure I don't see how they can win this game.

Good points. I would say Philly's pass rush is clearly inferior and they may struggle with the screen game. I also expect Gronk to be much more of a factor. It would be so outstanding if the Pats D can somehow force some turnovers and they could really open up a lead in the game. I worry a bit about the Pats D after the first half last week but hopefully they can cover the edges better and not give up a lot of big plays.

This is a game where screen plays will work better because their team speed on defense as a whole is not nearly as fast as JAX was.

I thought our OL did a pretty solid job against the Jags save for flemming. considering this was a team that had 57 sacks.

I thought it was more the speed of their linebackers that shut us down as they kept going short to lewis/Hogan/white and the jags were on it quickly.

Didn’t the patriots have an uncharacteristically high number of turnovers in that game?

Yep, Pats had 3 Ravens had 0. That's what sunk the Vikings, they were off to a great start until the pick 6 and that strip sack. Eagles took bigtime advantage of those miscues.
