My son-in-law is a 20 year career navy Submarine Sailor. He is planning on retiring later this year.

A naval tradition, during the retirement ceremony, is to present the retiring sailor with an American flag that was flown someplace near and dear to them. My daughter would love to get flag to MN and have it flown someplace in the stadium at the Superbowl, then it would be presented to him by the Navy at his retirement ceremony.

He is from Preston MN. His family dates back generations. And yes, he is a Vikings fan. We will convert him soon I promise.

I realize we are asking for a lot, and probably a little too late, but we have to try. Any suggestions? We already sent email to the Vikings.

Try contacting the stadium management. They may even have a protocol for what you want to do.

I'm not sure who does all that, but it might be worth trying the Minnesota National Guard...as long as he doesn't mind an Army entity handling the flag.

Thank you . I am embarrassed to say I never thought of going straight to the stadium. Just reached out to them. And I will reach out to the National Guard.

If you called the Patriots, I wonder if Kraft would call in a few favors to the league.

Another avenue. I will try but I suspect they will be too busy to see it in time. (We are doing this a little late).

I just sent Stacey James an email. Maybe BB having a special spot for Navy, Stacey might consider bringing it to their attention.

Shannon Sharp, is that you? ;)

Keep us posted! This is a cool effort and would be awesome if it ends up coming to fruition.

Whoooosh

Usually I'm pretty good at picking up on things, but this one went right over my head.

My post is a reference to a Navy guy having the (superior branch called the) Army handle his retirement flag.

Try Governor Dayton’s Office. He’s good with military and his people might be responsive. They’ll probably try to help.

Shannon Sharp likes to call in the National guard lol :D. Hope you get it now.

In reality, he probably outta get the Air Force to do it, give him the best of the best.

At the very least, they will be well fed, happy, and excited to hit up a well-stocked PX on the way home to five-star living quarters.
