We're On To The Eagles

Isn’t Philly secondary horrible?

It won’t matter if the eagles are able to wreak havoc with their front 4. I remember thinking the giants in ‘07 and ‘11 having weak secondary. It didn’ t matter one bit.

Outside of Jenkins and their DL, we should have plenty of avenues to attack their defense. The speed of JAX greatly neutralized our RBs and PHI doesn't have that same speed, most importantly for when Lewis/White/Burkhead our catching the ball out of the backfield.

PHI's strength is stopping the run and getting to the QB. I believe they run at least a 6 man DL rotation (Fletcher, Graham, Jernigan, Curry, Barnett, Long), with particular emphasis on Cox and Graham being the two biggest challenges. Looks like a game where the GOAT will get plenty of chances to air it out against a much weaker secondary and an average LB group. He will need to do it quick or else their DL will look like the NYG from SB 42/46.

Defensively, PHI outside of PIT has perhaps the deepest stable of skill position players. I think we can match up w/ their RBs and WRs, but Zach Ertz as I've mentioned previously is the biggest headache with Chung figuring to be our main defender on him in man coverage.

So how do you slow down their offense? I don't think we can sell out on either the run or pass because their OL is elite even without their stud LT. Foles also isn't Bortles or Mariota in terms of mobility.

ATL's team speed was the biggest factor early which BB noted before the game. For PHI this year, it is not their team speed but rather their overall team size which is the first thing I notice. I think defending size is actually preferable for us in terms of matching up because our biggest weakness defensively is getting stretched horizontally with speedy skill position players.

It’s not the number of players on IR that matter but the inportance of the IRed player to the team. They lost their MVP QB and one of the best tackles in the game in jason peters. And patriots officials expect gronk back. I’ll take our injury situation over theirs any day of the week.

The Pats lost one of the best LBs, STs players, WRs and RTs in the game...

Plus Gronk might not come back..see Bryan Stork....see McClellin...At this point they're not healthier IMO.

I wonder if Chris Long or Blount will be able to help them with any info...of course we have Eric Rowe.

Gilmore played a year in Schwartz's system. Schwartz learned defense from Bill Belichick.

2014 Bills defense was basically this Eagles defense as Schwartz was the DC,

Mario Williams had 14.5 sacks, Jerry Hughes had 10. They had Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus in the middle.

Brady threw for 370 yards and 4 TD in Buffalo. The 2nd game Pats had the 1st seed locked up and Brady only played a half with.

Also gotta watch out for Long and other D-linemen, they have caused fumbles and hit QBs while throwing on their arms, so we need to make sure we protect the edges.

Full of optimism as usual....

Gronk will fine for the game. 2 weeks is plenty enough time to recover.

With wentz out, i would much rather be in our position injury wise. Can you imagine if the opposite were true- brady out and wentz in with hoyer starting?

see Bryan Stork....see McClellin...

Those are terrible examples. Stork had like 5 concussions in a span of 3 years. McClellin had red flags in the draft about concussions and he's had about 4 or 5 since coming into the league.

Those are 2 guys that have concussion problems. Gronk this is only his 2nd concussion in his NFL career the 1st one was when Ward took out his knee and he hit his head on the ground.

In what way? The 2004 Eagles had the advantage at QB and pretty much every skill position. They were also the #2 overall defense in points allowed and #3 overall total defense. That team also played a first place schedule while this team played a 4th place schedule. The only measurable way that the '17 Iggles squad is better than the '04 Iggles squad is coaching. Peterson has done a nice job turning that team around and Schwartz has given the defense an edge and nastiness that they simply haven't had in years.
Pederson doesn’t seem to be a bonehead with the clock. Hopefully Foles will choke like McPuke did. TO in that Super Bowl was amazing, especially coming back from injury. What a ****ing joke Marvin “No show in the playoffs” Harrison got in the Hall first.

Agree completely. Speed is usually the biggest problem for the Patriots, they handle size much better.

Eagles will be a hard game. They are solid throughout.

Quick question, i imagine Malcom Jenkins will cover Gronk?!?

I can see us putting Gilmore on Alshon and Butler on Smith.

We had Malcom for awhile and though pretty good sometimes hes not the awesome safety hes made out to be . He gets burned deep alot and cant tackle sometimes. I mean he was on some the worst defenses in history in NO. Nice kid though. IF he covers Gronk he will mess up. Most his stats are with sub par WR or bad QB's.

PFF: Malcolm Jenkins NFL's best safety
Best safety? That's pretty funny. How many times does he get burned deep? That was his problem here. He got his tackles, he made some plays, but you could always count on him to miss his assignments in coverage.

If he's gotten any better, good for him. But PFF has no credibility with me.

It's gonna be tough. Make no mistake this is BY FAR the most complete team the Patriots will have faced this year. Great on all 3 sides of the game.

Saying this says you have no confidence in the Patriots according to the people who claim that it's going to be an easy game..

Malcolm Jenkins has gotten 2 years older since than and it shows. He is still good but really he isn't what he was 2 or 3 years ago. Strong safeties get older faster than free safeties.

The Eagles are good but this is definitely a game the Pats should win. Looking forward to it.
Last 5 games, last night was Fole's only real good game. And they don't have the same D that Minn has (though they did not show up last night)

Foles looks friggin incredible tonight. They have a very good WR core, 2 good RB’s, and a serviceable TE. On D, they can pressure. Best team we have seen all year and that isn’t hyperbole
Actually it is a way better match up for the Pats than Vikings. (Vikings looked like crap but their D is better. And Foles has had mostly bad games, last night the exception)

I believe the Patriots should win. They just beat a better team ( imo) than Philly. That said, they'll outnumber Pats fans like SB 39. This is going to be a borderline road game.
Less borderline than it would have been if Minn won.

The game plan is collapse the pocket, generate inside pressure. He does tons of fakes, so our safeties need to be careful.

If we hit Foles few times we can get to his head.

The eagles defense is pretty good, I’d say their front 4 are strong, better than the Jaguars, their corners aren’t as good as the Jaguars, but we need to make sure we protect Brady.

There will be room for our team to run the ball, the Jaguars are pretty good at defending against he run. The eagles have a decent run stop.
If Gronk is 100% then their linebackers gonna have a tough time with Gronk.

We will need a big game from Cooks, Amendola, Hogan, Lewis and of course Brady.

Defense needs to start strong, no mental lapse like he first half. Harrison will have two weeks to rest, he played well today, he still can overpower linemen and get to the QB.
we need to score 1 more point than they do at the end of 60 minutes

Hopefully they put guards on those fire alarms at the hotel the Pats staying. I remember philly fans pulled like 3 or 4 times one night at their last Super Bowl.
