Central Thread For Mourning/Canonizing Jimmy Garoppolo

Not sure why they didn't do that this time. Maybe the figured they'd get a 2nd anyway?

I guess it doesn't make a difference, except for seeing what Brady decides if they win again.......but at the end of the day, I'd think we were winding up in the same place regardless

I am glad for JG and the niners.....before that deal, the team looked like a smoldering crater....they're like 120M under the cap for next year, and ticket sales will go crazy and JG gets to be a hero that people like.......it's a good story.......following in Brady's footsteps here could have been really tough on him......instead he gets to be a franchise savior or so it seems.

now I actually like another team besides the pats

Lead SF to the SB next year Jimmy G

Tim Hasselbeck on JG:

Link:Tim Hasselbeck on K&C expresses doubt about Jimmy Garoppolo

He is bang on the money regarding the compensation the Patriots got for him. There was NO first rounder to be had and there is a good reason for that. I mean.. Drew Bledsoe who has a far superior NFL track record to JG only got a conditional first back for the Pats. Why would a guy like JG - with 6 quarters of meaningful NFL experience who was unable to finish the 4 games he was asked to do- get more?

:D Awww did I upset the teenage girls in the Brady fanclub????

Sorry but this discussion is for PATRIOT FANS, aka NFL FOOTBALL FANS vs giggling starry eyed Brady fans. There is a HUGE difference between the two and you can tell who belongs in what camp by the "emotion" in the responses.

I cheer for the logo first and player second. In my opinion JG being shown the door and Brady staying in his place until someone better comes along is the best thing for the team. Both literally and financially.

I wish him well, just not THAT well.
Rather root for him than against him.
He can go to the SB in the 2020s.

seems abit extreme to me after 6 games. Remember when Nick foles went 27tds and 2 Interceptions for a season?

not saying he wont be solid. but people are so ready to throw brady who has lead us to 7 superbowls and possibly an 8th over 17 years, just had an MVP level season... for a quarterback who we have seen 6 games of tape..

Tom Brady has given me enough joy over 18 seasons that I am personally not going to keep bemoaning this whole jimmy g business. Yeah its a business but I am happy for what brady has given us and dont mind him ending the career here. Not only the wins but the class, the team friendly deals etc will always be a reason I am happy he wasnt traded.

So that you don't have to take the hit of reading it, the idea is that fan reaction to PSIgate has driven Kraft to be Brady uber alles and give the order that Brady will finish his career in NE:

"Meanwhile, Patriots fans felt burned by the owner who had saved football here, believing he had abandoned Brady in favor of his fellow billionaires. What he saw as pragmatism, they saw as betrayal. Anyone paying attention knew Kraft would never become an Al Davis-style outlaw, but such nuance was lost on a blood-lusted fanbase that had spent two years stoked into permanent outrage.

In the months that followed, one fact became clear -- Kraft would never forsake Brady again. His affection for the quarterback bordered on paternal, and if he had failed him once, he would not do so a second time."

good article

1. kraft is obviously a guy who cares about what others (fans and fellow billionaires) think about him......more than BB does
2. kraft knows that a significant part of the patriot fanbase feels he did not support his QB like he should have......some might even use the word "betrayal"
3. kraft decides that he cant take the hit from the fans, of BB trading or releasing brady......maybe feels like he owes brady that much
4. jimmy g and the future success of the team are collateral damage

not saying its true.....we dont know the facts.....and the key players aint talkin

but there is a logic to it

please dont hate.....just spittin truth

I don' think so personally. This is sort of conspiracy theory territory but I think :

1.) Kraft wants Brady to retire a Patriot.
and
2.) I think the NFL and the Krafts were thinking if Jimmy G is another super star QB New England could be in the playoffs again for the next 10-12 years. So essentially the Patriots could have been contenders for almost 30 straight years. This is the conspiracy part. I think Kraft is perfectly fine with the Patriots rebuilding for a couple seasons after TB leaves. In fact its almost good business for the Patriots to be out of the playoffs for a couple seasons. I think the BB and TB have destroyed the NFL.

Not to go off on to much of a rant but if the Panthers win the Super Bowl this year for example.. well that's great but the Patriots have been to 7 Super bowls and won 5 since TB has taken over. It sort of has tarnished the NFL or made a mockery out of it.

But most importantly Kraft wants Brady to retire a Patriot. Brady is a football god in New England, completely rebuilt and reshaped the organization. And has created millions of fans and almost 2 decades worth of kids to young adults now are Patriot fans for life.

Young was certainly a really good QB to replace Montana. Still Montana had two good years left taking KC to the playoffs. I wonder if he had stayed with SF if he would have won another SB.

Is this real? What the hell?

If Thomase’s opinion is that Kraft wouldn’t want to part with Brady under any circumstances (which is reasonable), then why doesn’t he simply point to other factors, such as consistently winning, still playing at an MVP level, securing HFA, etc?

What the hell does deflategate have to do with anything? I’ve somehow just managed to lose more respect for someone who I had very little for to begin with. Where does this guy come up with these ideas?

The only realistic possibility (IMO) may be option #3, and the whole world has known that for the past couple of years.

Option #1 may certainly be true, but that would be the case with any owner over a head coach, and especially any owner who had Bill Belichick as his HC. Why would Bill give a damn about what the other owners think of him? This is a guy who regularly leaves an empty seat at the coaches breakfast. He doesn’t even care what the other coaches think, let alone other owners.

i dont think BB cares about what owners think about him.....thats the point

but kraft does care about what people think.....fans and owners......especially New England area fans......hes a boston guy......cares about his legacy in NE area

i do think that BB cares deeply about his NFL legacy and would like to have success post-brady

The article grossly over complicates things.

Look- Brady and the Krafts literally live right next door to each other in Brookline. Not down the street, literally adjacent homes. There is zero chance JG was going to take over if Brady has anything left in the tank.
