He never "becomes a runner", because he never maintains control of the ball.
Therefore he cant break the plane.
You have to be a "runner" to break the plane.
It's not rocket science
He wasn't even close to being a runner, this was one of the easiest interpretations of the current rule. Remember Gronks called back TD earlier this year, you couldn't see the ball move and they took the TD away. The only abortion was Nance couldn't figure out why it took so long to verify the TD.

BTW, for all those who want to be the lemmings for made up sports media controversy, here is Big Ben 10 minutes after the game at the podium:

"From the jumbotron, yes. Obviously, no one touched him. I thought that he crossed the plane before the ball hit the ground, but the rule is you must possess it all the way through. "

So does anyone, anywhere need anything else on the subject? If you cannot comprehend "you must possess[control] it all the way through" being game, set, match on this so called controversy then you are part of the sports media problem.

Argue with the rule all anyone wants but you are correct; this was a relatively simple call with the only uncertainty being could what he did before the ball hit the ground/lose control be considered that general two step and move forward with a 'football move'(that cannot be a falling to the ground thing) to establish possession. But the receiver was beginning to fall as he caught it and therefore no chance to make that 'football move' to establish possession. That is the way the refs have been calling it all year -- the call was not surprising. As such (with no football move per rules) the receiver must maintain control through the process (goal line means nothing to the process) which he clearly, absolutely, 100% did not.
This is on the receiver, period! Done, over, easy call, receiver never should have even allowed it to be close if the call was even actually controversially inconclusive. Anyone arguing otherwise is either a cry baby whiner, dishonest or of too little cognitive reasoning to comprehend basic concepts such as rules.

BUT--look at what Ben is saying here. He's thinking he's going to get one more play to win it after clocking it.

The coach is more right than the QB.
Disagreed, because I think he was thinking clock it, FG and win it in OT

One of belichick and patricia’s best coaching jobs

steeler board is in denial...they don't believe the ball hit the ground.
Even though there is a crystal clear pic of the ball on the ground.

This W may be in the top 5 most satisfying/important reg season W in the TB era.

Sreelers fans are convinced they'll win the rematch. That a team who "needed the refs and no A.Bto win by three"...is going to get it handed to them next time.

That was a fantastic post!

And it reminded me that I miss DJ.
Yeah, Tom to Gronk is reminiscent of Bobby & Phil bailing us out in the early 70's on the ice

"...you buying tonight?" "No way! Your turn..."

Absolutely no doubt the ball was not controlled to the ground and hit the ground. If it was at the 30 yard line, no one would argue the reversal.

Those who say that breaking the plane should end the play have a point, but they are not in synch with the rules as they stand. So says everyone objective who has reviewed the play. No story here...except for the generally un-watched and thoroughly unwatchable HSPN.

Big Ben. Throws his coaches under the bus. Bad.

Big Ben. Tosses the ball into traffic over the middle instead of throwing it into the third row of the stands. Worse.

Steelers Receivers. Not one of them runs a fade route once Ben says he's not spiking it. Worst.

The more disciplined and better coached team won.

We're on to Buffalo.

reading the steeler board is hilarious

talk about delusional

they hate us cause they aint us

You know what sucks...all these so called football fans that dont know ****....its crazy how many people cant read or know a rule and see what it means...Im so sick of stupid people....waiting for the meteor to start us all over again....ugh.

Unfortunately I think the stupid folk will survive like ****roaches

Thank God this douchebag didn't score or contribute to Pittsburgh's game winning TD vs the Pats.
