Commissioner Bill Polian?

You would be surprised at how many stupid multimillionaires, and even billionaires, there are. And I'm talking about the self made variety, real millionaires and billionaires. Getting rich requires a particular skill set, the right timing and a bit of luck. In some cases intelligence is required, in many it is not.

Indeed.

I try to tell my kids, it can always get worse...

As much bias as Goodell had (and he tried to whitewash it), Polian just has way too much baggage with our team (and probably others) to be fair. Jerry's mental faculties might be leading him astray (though I certainly appreciate him making Goodell sweat).

He's a month shy of 75 y/o. How much innovation to the program do you think he has in himself?

This was my reaction as well. Shoot - Paul Tagliabue is only 76! Bring him back for another go around. NFL seems to like to hire up and comers as commissioner Tagliabue was 48 when he got the job, Goodell 47. The other 3 finalists Goodell beat out in 2006 were in their early 50's.

My 2 cents.....
Though Polian is a non-starter, I see the signals Jerruh is transmitting to the Full 32. 'The time has come to install a true football guy capable of decisive leadership.'
The question becomes...Who possesses a deep understanding of the sport and the business side and will command the respect of the NFLPA and the fans? Though this person doesn't likely exist, owners need to understand their universally despised commissioner has become the de facto Face of the NFL and this reality alone should be grounds for termination.

Also....Ray Lewis knows where the bodies are buried

Anyone else think that Scott Pioli would be a vastly better choice than anything that's come out of the aether so far?

I read a story the other day (NYDN) suggesting the Giants go after Pioli an McDaniels.

I'm sure most of the owners would love nothing more than to install a commissioner that hates the Patriots as much as they do.

They...have...a Commissioner who hates the Patriots as much as they do. o_O

Having said that...great post!!

Is there anything you dont have an Ill-informed, ignorant opinion on?

Reporter : What do you say to the reports that Jerry Jones wants to replace Goodell?
Irsay : It's all in his head

So if the top criteria for NFL commissioner is hatred(jealousy) of the Patriots, we're in trouble. Polian would head a very long list.

Good God, no! Besides the fact that the Pats would be completely screwed, instead of a commissioner that hides when he comes to Gillette for 5 minutes per season, we'd have one who brawls with players in the tunnels under the stadium.

Thing is, Jerruh misplayed it:
But if Jones hopes to block the extension, it would have been much easier for him to do it in May.

That’s when, per a league source, owners voted 32-0 to authorize the Compensation Committee to enter into a new contract with Goodell. Jones, given the 32-0 vote, approved the measure. And if Jones wanted to oppose the vote in May, he would have needed only eight other owners to agree with him in order to block it.

Now that the Compensation Committee has received the authorization to do the deal, Jones would need 24 owners to block a new contract. Although the passage of time, and the lingering nature of significant problems like the anthem controversy, could get other owners to conclude that it’s time for a change, it’s a long way to get to 24.
Ref: Jerry Jones had a much better chance to derail Goodell extension in May

I guess in May Jerruh was still thinking the whole Zeke thing would go away?

But now he's really got an uphill struggle.

( Jerry Jones exits Compensation Committee (even though he was never on it) ) says JJ is no longer even on the conference calls any more.

And the Compensation Committee is filled with old-school owners (Maras, Rooneys, etc) that will be hard to move.

So JJ is kind of screwed. Lawyering up isn't really going to do him any good, IMHO.

All he's really managed to do is piss off Goodell ( Report: Goodell “furious” about push for incentive-base deal ).

Oh well, at least we can be thankful for that!

PS: Ray Lewis killed a guy.

Why would an old man, about get Ahlzhimers, want an old man about to get Ahlzhimers, running the league?

Last I heard Condi Rice still wanted the job.

Get her in a three way race with Gotohell and Poo-lying. ;)

I would expect nothing less from the people who own this league.
It's a truly repugnant thought but it's in no way surprising.

Warning: BSPN link: ( Jones' lawyer: Owners misled in Goodell talks ).

Seems the gloves are off. Jerruh's lawyers and Rog's lawyers are locking horns. This is getting ugly quick, but not a word about this on any of the NFL's outlets.
