What's the story here ?

Inactive today.

Does BB think he can be back by the playoffs ?

Probably will just wait to swap him with one of the returning IR players. I doubt Hightower will be inactive again.

Any reason hightower is not on IR yet? Would seem sensible to bring in extra player (whoever they are) for the bye week to get extra work in? Also they lost that DT (forget his name!) to the Texans who they could have presumably kept by promoting him...

Reiss has been saying all along that the Pats are just waiting to activate McClellin from the IR before putting Hightower on the IR.

Not promoting Blackson and letting him go to HOU probably means Brown's injury is short-term and VV should be coming back. Of course it could also mean they didn't care that much for Blackson and have other DTs in similar capacity available on the street or other PS (like Hamilton on NO PS or Kilgo on JAX PS). But since they paid him double the PS salary let's go with the first assuption..

BTW - This could be another example of BB good trading manners. He doesn't want to complicate things for other teams or players unless its very significant. In return, people don't complicate them for him. That's at least one of the reasons why he can get so many trades done fairly easily (also on draft days) and why getting Kilgo or Hamilton from NO and JAX might not be too difficult..

Obviously, you want to let it heal properly so that it doesn’t cause any issues in the future. I think there’s a decent chance that he may still be limited during spring workouts. Pretty sure it’s somewhere around a 6 month recovery, but they’ll likely want to be cautious.

If I had to guess I would say High is still on the 53 not because the front office had gone home for the night.

Knowing how BB operates there is some small advantage trying to be gained from not IRing him yet.

There is no way BB let go of a bigger offer from Cleveland, or even the Jets, because 'in the conference'.

BB traded Bledsoe in the division.

A smart coach wouldn't worry so much about 'this will improve the other team' because the trade will also improve his own team, and by doing things that hurt your own team in order to prevent other teams from advancing, you're not going to end up winning.

The only question is, if trading Jimmy was a possibility, why didn't they hold onto Jacoby as the backup/developmental.
Right now we have Hoyer, who by signing a 3 year contract, has basically admitting he will never start again in his career, and are missing the 'potential future qb'.
