Probably the close to $3M contract this year, plus $2.9M that could become guaranteed next year if he's on the roster in March 2018.

So, Belichick had JAG as a backup for half the season, Hoyer for the rest of the season (at least), AND received a draft choice in the very low 30's for someone he had no intention of re-signing or franchising.

including Hoyer in the trade would have been reasonable for the Pats, his base salaries for the next two years are right in the range of reasonable backup money, and the 49ers are taking the dead cap hit on his signing bonus either way.

Give our 2018 first, a 2019 4th & Gilmore, for Patrick Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald , and Deone Bucannon.

Fitz is 34
Peterson has a opt out clause in his contract in 2018, and they have depth at the LB position.

You know the other reason we didn't trade him before might not be because we didn't get two number ones. It might of been because we did't get more than a second rounder. BB decided to put out the smoke screen about not wanting to trade JG in hopes of getting a one but nothing happened so he waited to see if a team got desperate during the season. This trade was most likely always open for awhile and BB decided to take it.

When Mary Kay Cabot floated the idea of multiple first round draft picks for Garoppolo, the Browns fans out here were in open revolt. The way things turned out, Browns probably would have been better off to follow her suggestion.

Luckily we're a long way off from actual franchise tag talk. For this thread's sake, the point is that whatever franchise tag decision is made this offseason, we don't have to consider giving it to JG.

Would it make any money difference?
I think sf gets hit the same whether trade or cut.
Must be because pats will give him a lower salary.

Edit: perhaps his salary being guaranteed means the pats can pay him the minimum and the 9ers dobrbd up footing the bill

I think Kaepernick is available.
