Jimmy Garoppolo traded to SF for 2018 2nd round draft pick

Jimmy G was causing locker room division :p . On a serious note he wasn't going to play here soon. And this isn't the 2008 Pats when Cassell took over and went 11-5 . Would be disappointed if they don't get someone useful a wr (JE type) or LB-DE pass rusher

If Brady got hurt and had to miss some time, this will kill. Jimmy could definitely keep the ship afloat.

I am happy for Jimmy that he'll finally get his chance.
We are getting hoyer so we are ok at backup qb.

You can't pay 2 quarterbacks, Jimmy G was never taking a discount to sit on the bench.

It was obvious the Patriots had to pick one by the start of next year, they chose Brady, this pick will be 1st or 2nd pick of the 2nd round, so it's not that bad a pick for a guy in the last year.

I think all those multiple first rounders was just talk.

Yeah, all the talk about multiple first rounders was coming from Mary Kay Cabot in Cleveland, who, to put it delicately, may not be the most credible person in the world.

If the rumors were true and the Pats could have had the 13th pick in the draft plus other picks, this was a huge misstep by Belichick. Sure the 49ers’ pick will probably be the 34th pick, but it isn’t the 13th pick plus another pick.

next year jimmy is gonna get 25 mil a year. He has no trade value. If he was in year two of his rookie contract we would have gotten two first rounders.

Any clue why Hoyer to FA is the move instead of as part of trade package? I imagine it's ostensibly part of cap management. But, it also puts the Patriots backup contingent on signing a free agent - other teams could be "suddenly" interested in Hoyer if they're cap rich competitors.

Wink/nod so that SF foots the Hoyer bill, would be my guess. Hoyer's not the kind of guy to gum this up, if it's the actual plan, from what little I know of him.

I'll defer to Bill

But this doesn't seem like a great move to me

I really really really like Jimmy 49er s got a good one.:(

Now, the patriots can sign Hoyer to a new contract, hopefully for 4 years. Any bonus would be spread over 4 years. The 2017 cap cost would be minimal.
