Anyone else think Fouts was the worst he's ever been today?

It's amazing, given how much $$$ the NFL and CBS have wrapped up in their game broadcasts, that this is the talent they willingly put in the booth. Think of all the poor production people, camera people, etc. listening to this and just getting upset at how their work reaches the audience via his presentation.

I refuse to believe that there's actually such a big talent dropoff, industry wide, that CBS has no one better available to them than Fouts. Romo makes him and his style look incredibly poor in contrast.

Shoot, you could probably plug in some podcaster or youtuber or patsfans super poster and get better results.

So, why keep Fouts or any really bad broadcaster? Is the average NFL audience just looking for what he brings to the table?

I'm...I'm curious how that became an either/or situation for you.
I can't really explain this much. I would relate it to me being god, trying to construct Dan Fouts brain with an inadequate material, as much as building a house out of dough. I would rather make an attraction that happens to be edible than to make one that causes other humans undeserved suffering.

They don't want to solve it. They are intentionally unloading him on us every chance they get.
I believe Fouts and Eagle are currently (inexplicably!) CBS's #2 team behind Nantz and Romo. So we'll be getting a lot of him, unfortunately.

Reading Dan Fouts' Wikipedia page - professional career section, you'd think you're reading about Peyton Manning.... all records, no accomplishments.

Print it and take it to the $hitter... Dan Fouts - Wikipedia

There are two types of national media guys.
1) The type that don't believe their own crap but pander to the 44 non New England states. (OK, 44.5 since CT is only half New England.)
2) Idiots that actually believe their own crap.
3) The rare type that is honest and intelligent.

Maybe Foutss has me fooled, but I think he is #2.

In any case, be it type 1 or type 2, they are as ignorable as the guy on the bus telling me that Jesus and the aliens work with the CIA to control my mind through microwave popcorn because ELVIS.

We have him twice more at least. Maybe we luck out and one of the games get flexed, or Fouts eats a bad clam next time he's in town.

This is saying a lot considering how bad he's been over the years. He was way off base all game. Literally every time everytime he predicted a penalty, it would go on the opposite team. What is this guys IQ?

CBS, you solved your Simms problem and gave us Romo, now can you find a way to solve your Fouts problem?

I believe that Dan has back slid and is back on the drink again.

what did the pats ever do to him..he's so bias and today outright mad

Once upon a time, Dan Fouts was considered one of the greatest QBs of all time. And he was 3rd round pick so he was considered one of the greatest QB steals of all time. Ask a kid who is Dan Fouts and they have no clue. I think he is old a bitter.

I heard this somewhere. It was either WEEI or Bill Simmons and they made a really good point. What evidence do we have that Fouts even played NFL football? He never offers a shred of insight into the game. He is just constantly making moronic statements. Tony Romo has been doing the jobs for a month and a half and he is already light years ahead of Fouts.

There are so many people who could do what Fouts is doing and actually do it well. Thank God Phil Simms is gone, but it is long past time for Fouts to get fired. No excuse for anybody being this bad at their job.

I'm pretty sure that Eagle & Fouts are CBS's #2 team (which says something about the apparent lack of talent at CBS!) . So expect (*sigh*) to see them a lot.

Confirmed. Here's the ranked list:
  1. Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson
  2. Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts and Evan Washburn
  3. Greg Gumbel, Trent Green and Jamie Erdahl
  4. Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon
  5. Andrew Catalon and James Lofton
  6. Spero Dedes and Adam Archuleta
  7. Tom McCarthy and Steve Tasker and Steve Beuerlein
  8. Beth Mowins and Jay Feely

Move Harlan way up the list! Though perhaps he's #4 because of all his other commitments.

Gumbel used to be the number two announcer. When CBS finally got rid of Dierdorf they dropped Gumbel to the #3 spot, and elevated the Bird and the Beard. Presumably that was done at the time due to wanting to keep Eagle-Fouts intact, and not placing a brand new analyst in the #2 role. In hindsight that is failed logic (see Tony Romo's success).

I really do not understand why Eagle & Fouts are still the #2 CBS broadcast team. If the rankings were to be based on pure meritocracy then either Harlan-Gannon or Gumbel-Green would be #2, and the other pair #3. Both of those teams are solid. I don't get to see enough of the other four to compare, but I'm sure one or more (if not all) of them should rank higher than Eagle-Fouts as well.

Fouts: “You wonder if Tomlinson doesn’t tip the ball whether McCourty can intercept it. ”

Eagle: “Well the ball would have been turned over anyway.”

F: “But then they could have tried a 52 yard field goal.”

Narrator: “It was fourth down. They couldn’t.”
They work for different networks, but a perfect pairing for the worst game of every week would be **** Stockton and Dan Fouts. It boggles my mind that Stockton is still announcing games. He's been around so long it feels as though he must be about 97 years old. Fortunately he never calls any Pats games.

**** Stockton hilariously pulls a Ron Burgundy

“Look on graphic for the final two bullet points,” said Stockton.

Live TV is so great. Ron Burgundy would be so proud.

Maybe Stockton was too busy thinking back to his 1975 play call of Carlton Fisk's home run to focus on the live game being played. He and Fouts deserve to work together.

I agree. Harlan should be #2 and Gumble #3.

The group of anal-ists they have isn't very strong; but if I had to work with only them, I would promote Lofton (with Harlan) and Beuerlein (with Gumble) behind Romo/Nance, and see what happens.

Poor Jay Feely. He deserves no worse than the #5 seat. OTOH, Fouts & the woman deserve each other.
